It looks like the PlayStation 5 is about to get more serious. Some eagle-eyed Internet sleuths have spotted a rating for the PS5 version of Serious Sam 4 on a German rating board. While the game’s developer, Croteam, has yet to make any official announcement, it seems a console release for the PC and Stadia exclusive is imminent.

The German rating board, USK, has given the PS5 version of Serious Sam 4 an 18+ age rating, which is on par with the game’s rating on PC and Google Stadia. This fourth installment in the series serves as a prequel to Serious Sam 3: BFE and follows protagonist Sam “Serious” Stone as he searches for the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail. Partnering with the Alien Artifact Acquisition division of the Earth Defense Force in his search, Sam soon finds extraterrestrial overlord Mental standing in his way. He is forced to blast his way out of trouble and battle countless enemies in his quest to save humanity.

The game was advertised as a rather cheesy action flick filled with impossible stunts, over-the-top characters, and a story that will keep players guessing until the very end. Unfortunately, the game didn’t quite stick the landing as reviews were rather negative for the prequel sequel. In fact, in our review, we called Serious Sam 4 “a decent game at its core, but some generic level designs and rushed quality let down its potential”. It is a shame the recent release couldn’t quite capture the “magic” of the previous installments, which were praised for bringing back the simplicity of classic shooter games.

With the Stadia exclusivity of Serious Sam 4 running out this year, a next-gen port seems likely. If the game does end up being ported to the PS5, it won’t be the first time that Sam has made his way to consoles. Back in November last year Croteam announced that The Serious Sam Collection, which collects the HD versions of Serious Sam: The First Encounter, Serious Sam: The Second Encounter, and Serious Sam 3: BFE, would be making its way to PS4, Xbox One, and Switch that month.
