Shadow of the Colossus dethroned Monster Hunter World from its two-week run in the number one spot for video game sales—at least in the UK.
According to Eurogamer, the iconic game took over as the top-selling video game in the UK, edging out the debut of UFC 3, while pushing the popular Monster Hunter World to the number three spot on the charts.
This is the second time that Shadow of the Colossus debuted in the number one spot in the UK. The first time occurred when the PlayStation-exclusive title was released on the PlayStation 2 in 2006. This time around, however, first-week sales numbers for the 2018 remake indicate that physical copies of the game outpaced the first week of sales from the original 2006 version by a staggering 73 percent.

What makes these sales numbers even more remarkable is that fact that they are only including physical copies of the game. Digital sales of the Shadow of the Colossus remake have not been announced, but also will likely add significant sales numbers to its overall totals, especially considering the bonuses that came with pre-ordering the digital version of the game exclusively through the online PlayStation Store.
It remains to be seen how Shadow of the Colossus has sold in the United States thus far, but sales numbers will surely not disappoint, as the cinematic game continues to draw viewers on streaming services such as YouTube and Twitch. While the number of streams featuring the game have gradually declined since it was released a week ago, it still maintains a steady Twitch viewership.
Shadow of the Colossus has had a deep impact with gamers since its release for the PlayStation 2 and has continued to do so through this most recent remake, as well as Team Ico’s first remake of the classic titan-slaying title in 2011 for the PlayStation 3. With record-breaking sales in the first week alone, it is a solid bet that the Shadow of the Colossus remake will ultimately be an overwhelming success. However, the best takeaway should be that continued high-sales volumes of the decade-old title clearly indicate that the groundbreaking game will hold a special place in the hearts of gamers forever.
