With ancient tombs comes riches. Unfortunately, you aren't able to take everything from a tomb at the start of Shadow Of The Tomb Raider. There are chests players can find in ancient tombs that are locked, requiring lockpicks in order to open. You can obtain one about halfway through the main story, although the process of getting one can be somewhat tedious. Here is a complete guide to how to obtain lockpicks for your journey.

9 Why Lockpick?

Lara Croft is a world-renowned tomb raider, researching and discovering ancient tombs. In video game terms, these tombs have tons of loot that Lara can scavenge.

The main issue is that most of the loot in tombs are locked behind chests that Lara needs lockpicks to open. You only need one to open a chest and it isn't consumed on use. If you want to get the most out of your tomb delving, you will want to pick up a lockpick as soon as you can.

8 How To Start The Quest

The lockpick is tied behind a side quest in The Hidden City. You will have to find an NPC named Takiy to start it.

Head to the middle of the city and look for a young boy. If you talk to him, the boy will mention that a dead person stole his dice. You can choose to accept the side mission and help find his dice, with the reward unlocking the vendor who sells the essential item.

7 Takiy's Dice Side Mission

After you talk with Takiy, you will need to find Pisco the Dead. You can find him at the southwest quadrant of the city. Pisco is not actually dead, as he can be found alive and healthy praying in a nearby building.

Talking to him will reveal that he did not steal the dice and he is simply an outcast of the city. Of course, this wouldn't be a typical side mission if there wasn't more to do. Pisco will only give you the dice if you find other Outcasts and talk to them. Trouble is, there are 5 different Outcasts you must find.

6 Outcast 1

The first Outcast is not far from Pisco. Head to the southern section of the city to find the first Outcast.

She can be found up a set of stairs close to where Pisco was praying at. There are no objectives she asks you to do. Rather, she tells you a personal story of when she fell in love with an outsider. She was left to die but the outsider came back and saved her only to never return.

5 Outcast 2

Just like the first Outcast, the second person you must talk to is not far from Pisco. Head up the stairs at the southern part of the city, just as if you were going to the first Outcast.

This time, take a right when you head up the stairs and continue running until you reach the second set of stairs. Once you run up those, turn around to your right and you should see the second Outcast. He will tell you of the Cult's hypocrisy for casting him out because he told the truth, even though the Cult says he was lying.

4 Outcast 3

You can find the third Outcast further south of the second Outcast. Head back to the second flight of stairs and look for wooden spikes.

These spikes are aligned on stone walls that lead into a dark cave. You will need to head into this cave to find the third Outcast. Her story revolves around taking the fall for another's problems. This Outcast was exiled because she took the blame for stealing a jade necklace, something her daughter actually did. She is actually a thief, so it seems like her daughter learned a thing or two from her.

3 Outcast 4

The fourth Outcast is on the southeast side of the city, further away than the other three Outcasts so far. Still, this Outcast is rather easy to find.

When you head to the south end of the city, look for a set of stone stairs in between wooden pillars and a stone hut. Walk straight up the stairs and enter the building. The Outcast can be found standing to the left part of the stone hut. His name is Paimo, known for taking down a herd of white capybaras on his own. Since he was originally a farmer, his father disowned him for going his own way and following his own ambitions.

2 Outcast 5

You might have noticed that the fifth Outcast doesn't have a marker on your map when you begin the quest. That seems intentional, as the fifth Outcast's location is revealed when you talk to the other four.

Regardless, head to the southeast part of The Hidden City to find the last Outcast. You can find her just south of the city's bridge to the east, residing in a hut surrounded by wooden pillars. A man is playing music near her, so you can also follow the sound of his music to help guide you. As for the story, she focuses on the current situation with the Cult and how fear is dictating their decisions instead of change. What may surprise you is that she is the merchant that sells the lockpick you need.

1 Merchant Spawn Locations

The fifth Outcast is the merchant you are looking for. Moraekah sells plenty of upgrades and items to you if you have the gold.

She will allow you to buy items from her the second you finish talking to her, so it's best to purchase the lockpicks right then and there. If you don't have enough gold, you can find her at the top right of The Hidden City near a set of puddles or right next to the eastern bridge in the city. She also moves out of The Hidden City later in the game, meaning you can also find her in the eastern part of Kuwaq Yaku, the southern end of Mission of San Juan, and—strangely—the Trial of the Eagle area next to the nearby base camp.
