Shang-Chi won't be breaking Marvel's box office record, but it can currently boast that it's the most popular MCU movie to date according to Rotten Tomatoes.

After almost two years on hiatus thanks to the gap between Spider-Man: Far From Home and then the pandemic, the MCU's movie slate finally got back underway over the summer. First via Black Widow, and then through Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. The latest installment in the MCU hit theaters last weekend and has been getting rave reviews from critics and fans alike.

Such rave reviews, as a matter of fact, that Shang-Chi is currently the most popular MCU movie ever according to Rotten Tomatoes. While its critic score currently sits at 93%, which is impressive in itself, its fan score is a whopping 98% right now. The next closest MCU movie is Far From Home on 92%, while What If? is the highest rated MCU show on 93%.

Shang-Chi fans haven't just been sharing the love on Rotten Tomatoes. They've also been making sure the movie is a success at the box office. The $90 million it drew over the weekend is the highest ever for a Labor Day weekend release. That has to have come as a huge surprise even to Marvel and Disney considering the pandemic is still winding down right now.

The new MCU movie has been so successful so far that it appears to have prompted Sony to change plans for its own upcoming Marvel movie. Venom: Let There Be Carnage was rumored to be getting pushed yet again, possibly into 2022. However, Sony revealed this week that its release date has actually been brought forward two weeks to October 1. It's believed Shang-Chi making so much money last weekend was the catalyst in that decision.

Disney will also be breathing a sigh of relief that not simultaneously releasing Shang-Chi on Disney+ paid off. It employed that tactic with Black Widow and the apparent lack of change to Scarlett Johansson's contract following the decision has resulted in the actor taking legal action. Johansson requested $100 million for Black Widow being released on Disney+ as well as in theaters.
