Not only is Shang Tsung based on the original actor who played him in the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie, the Kombat Pack also includes the exact same outfit he wore.

We learned about Shang Tsung’s imminent arrival in Mortal Kombat 11 last March, but it was until May that we learned he’d be modeled after Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, the same actor who played Shang Tsung in the original Mortal Kombat movie.

But the homage to that cult classic doesn’t stop there. Not only do we get Mr. Tagawa as the model for Shang Tsung, but we also get his very stylish outfit from the movie too.

The recently released Kombat Pack (at least, if you pre-ordered it for early access privileges) also shipped with a bunch of character skins, including for those just recently released as part of the DLC. In Shang Tsung’s case, this includes skins for previous games, as well as a pair of outfits made to look like the 1995 movie. This means a stylized long coat with an oriental-ish shirt along with leather slacks.

It’s not quite as fantastical as Shang Tsung’s regular outfit, but it’s a low-key nod to the movie in a game that seems to pay homage to Mortal Kombat’s past success. Which coincidentally seems to be causing some current success too.

Mortal Kombat 11’s Kombat Pack also includes Nightwolf and Sindel, two classic characters first introduced in Mortal Kombat 3, as well as Todd MacFarlane’s Spawn, a character that hasn’t seen a fighting game since the Xbox version of SoulCalibur 2.

And also the two mystery characters. Leaks from last weekend confirmed that we were in store for The Terminator as well as Ash from the Evil Dead franchise. We’re still waiting on official confirmation on those last two, otherwise we’ll have to be patient as the DLC characters get rolled out over time.

If you're still on the fence, there’s still time to purchase the Kombat Pack for $39.99. Included are 7 exclusive character skins and 7 exclusive sets of gear, along with a ton of non-exclusive stuff too.
