Frogwares' newest inclusion to the Sherlock Holmes saga finds us plopped into the shoes of a young, baby-faced Sherlock in Sherlock Holmes Chapter One. Quite unlike the previous games in the franchise where it's established in Victorian London, this game is an open-world crime adventure set on the fictional island of Cordona.

Sherlock returns to the island of his childhood in order to fill in some gaps in his memory about his late mother. But with an island as large as Cordona, there's bound to be some unsolved murders and disappearances that a young Sherlock can put his sharp mind to the test on. In a sense, you're seeing the birth of the legendary consulting detective of 221B Baker Street.

8 Blindsided

Sherlock Holmes Blindsided side quest

What appears to be the natural conclusion to a duel turns out to be cold-blooded murder. A rich young man named Erich von Staub had been shot in the heart from afar, never even having the chance of meeting the eyes of his killer.

Although he was a wealthy and prominent young man, Erich was a horrible person behind closed doors. From blackmailing and threatening his opponents, Erich regularly beats his sister and had already sold her to a powerful man in his sixties. It is no wonder that Sherlock quickly hones in on Erich's sister as the culprit, though you can let her run free out of sympathy.

7 Iron Coffin

Sherlock Holmes Chapter One The Iron Coffin side case

Scandal rocks Cordona when a body tumbles out of a safe during a product demonstration, with respectable businessman and owner Basilio Capello charged with the crime and tossed in jail. Sherlock stumbles upon him, before agreeing to take his case.

A visit to Basilio's shop and further examination of the crime scene reveals that Basilio's wife, Augusta, had been having an affair with the dead man in the safe, Nicolò Detti. Augusta had locked Nicolò in the safe in a panic of having her husband discover the affair, only to find out later that Basilio had changed the combination lock. So poor Nicolò suffocated to death while slowly realising that nobody was coming for him. Yikes.

6 The Ghost-Hunter

Sherlock Holmes Chapter One The Ghost-Hunter side case

Although not exactly a murder case, Sherlock shows his keen abilities in outing a scam. As you run around Cordona, it might not escape your notice that there are posters of a man named Luigi calling himself a 'ghost hunter' slapped onto the street walls.

Sherlock's imaginary friend Jon holds high hopes of Luigi being the real deal, but Sherlock can clearly smell a rat. Sherlock follows the trail to Luigi's shack, where the esteemed 'ghost hunter' was drowning himself in booze. There, Sherlock exposes Luigi, finding an instrument he uses to imitate howling noises to scare potential customers his way.

5 Siren Song

Sherlock Holmes Chapter One Siren Song side case

The case of drowned sailors causes the citizens of the island of Cordona to suspect sirens of legend to be responsible. Of course, Sherlock wouldn't believe such hogwash.

It turns out that all the dead sailors were from the same ship, with all clues pointing to a prostitute named Elisa. She would poison their wine with cyanide before drowning them. Elisa confessed to Sherlock that these sailors had forced themselves on her and that she would get her revenge after the police didn't lift a finger to help. If you turn her in, she'll poison herself; if you do not, you'll help her move on from her pain.

4 String Theory

Sherlock Holmes Chapter One String Theory side case

Later in his life as a consulting detective, Sherlock is known for his masterful violin solos that echo down the streets from his rooms at Baker Street. The side case 'String Theory' shows the origins of Sherlock's famous violin and how he got it.

Cordona's resident musician and violin teacher Anthony Jones put up posters asking for help in recovering his lost violin. Sherlock sets off to help Anthony, eventually tracing it to a group of drunken, nimble-fingered sailors after they stole a donkey of all things. As a show of gratitude, Anthony gifted his violin to Sherlock, inspiring him to start learning how to play the violin.

3 Love, Death And Cordona

Sherlock Holmes Chapter One Love, Death and Cordona side quest

During one of Sherlock's missions for his brother Mycroft, Sherlock patiently waits in a café when his contact falls out of a tower right in front of him. Apparently, Corporal Mark Ridley had been stabbed before being pushed out of a window. Prior to his murder, Ridley had also been the victim of blackmail.

2 What Was Did In The Shadows

Sherlock Holmes Chapter One What Was Did In The Shadows side case

This case is a pretty short one, but no less gripping than the others. Sherlock is sent on his third police case to a cemetery where two men were found dead, seemingly killed by a vampire judging by the bite marks on their necks. But of course, Sherlock doesn't buy the whole vampire shtick.

A thorough examination unveils the truth: the graveyard keeper and the anatomist were in cahoots as grave robbers. They were caught by an aggrieved relative, who killed the anatomist. But the graveyard keeper managed to flee before slipping and hitting his head on a rock, knocking him out. A journalist saw this all happen, then added the bite marks to the corpses, not realising that he'd killed the unconscious graveyard keeper in the process.

1 Plan Bee

Sherlock Holmes Chapter One Plan Bee side case

After solving a series of police cases, Sherlock is finally granted the big whammy: searching for the missing Chief Inspector Placido. Placido had been investigating a dangerous gang known as 'The Hive' and its leader 'The Hive Master' before disappearing.

Sherlock's investigation uncovers an uncomfortable truth, leading you to believe Placido and the Hive Master are the same person. In reality, Placido killed the Hive Master and his closest cronies. But since nobody aside from the men he'd killed knew what the Hive Master looked like, Placido decided to take his place. When Sherlock finds him, Placido simply says he's taking down the gang from within, while beginning his retirement.
