We got our second look at the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie yesterday, revealing more of Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad (and many other Mushroom Kingdom residents). We were also surprised to see Mario take on Donkey Kong in a rematch that's been building for over 40 years.

Fans might have noticed a change in Donkey Kong's appearance in yesterday's trailer. He seemed more animated, more cartoonish, and more inclined to clean Mario's clock. As confirmed by famed Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto, that's because Nintendo and Illumination decided to revamp Donkey Kong for his theatrical debut.

"It's been over 40 years since the release of the original Donkey Kong game, which was also my debut title," explained Miyamoto. "We've also changed his design for the first time since he became a 3D Model in the original Donkey Kong Country game. For this movie, we seized the opportunity to give him a comical personality and design reminiscent of the original character."

Donkey Kong will be voiced by Seth Rogen, who said in yesterday's Direct that he's been waiting for this role for a long time. "My entire life I have been a fan of the world created by Miyamoto-san. In fact, my dog is named Zelda! Ever since I was a kid playing PlayChoice-10, I remember looking at Mario Bros and thinking, ‘If they ever make a movie out of this, I'd better be in it.’ And I'm happy to say that dream came true."

We'll also see the entire Kong family represented in the Mario movie. In the trailer, fans spotted Diddy, Swanky, and Dixie in the crowd cheering on Donkey Kong, while the Mario Kart section of the trailer featured Funky and Kiddie Kong.

And we could see even more Kongs in the future. According to a new report, Seth Rogen will reprise his role as the voice of DK in his own solo movie. Neither Nintendo nor Illumination has said anything, but sources in the know say a Donkey Kong movie is in the works.
