Near the beginning of Shin Megami Tensei 3 Nocturne HD Remaster, the protagonist is held down by a mysterious woman and child while they put a magatama in his boy — making him the Demi-fiend. This parasitic creature lives inside of its host and grants them different abilities.

Marogareh is the first magatama that you obtain, however, throughout the game, there are more that you can collect and use. These creatures essentially act as equipment/weapons, as "ingesting" different magatama will grant you different skills and attributes to use in battle. However, when you level up, you will get a message that your magatama "has begun to act violently within you". So what does this mean? Fortunately, we have a guide right here.

Magatama Acting Violently Guide

When you earn enough experience points to level up, you will get a notification that whichever magatama you have equipped has begun to act violently. You will be given the choice to allow it to continue or not.

If you choose to stop it, nothing happens. However, if you choose to allow it to continue, one of the following things will happen:

  • You will be fully healed.
  • Your entire party will be fully healed.
  • You will get a permanent stat increase.
  • You will be inflicted with a status ailment.
  • You will become cursed.

The results of the magatama acting violently differ depending on which magatama you have equipped.

Most of the early game magatamas will only offer beneficial outcomes, so it's wise to take advantage of their little perks. However, as you progress further into the game, the risk of getting cursed mid-dungeon becomes very real and can cause you a lot of issues.

How Do You Remove Curses?

If your magatama does curse you, you can remove it by speaking to the Lady of the Fount at the Fountain of Life and choosing "Remove Curse". These areas will be marked on your map by a green circular icon, as will the door that leads to them.
