Shin Megami Tensei fans have been asking for the fifth entry in the series of classic JRPGs for so long that it has become a meme, a game that couldn't possibly exist. But despite all odds, and more than four years of wondering since the game's first tease, we now have gameplay footage and a release date - and yes, it's coming this year.

The new trailer gives us a surprisingly detailed look into the world and mechanics of SMT5, though they'll all feel distinctly familiar to SMT and Persona veterans, complete with demon negotiations and raising a team of powerful units to fight alongside your JRPG party. It feels like a dark and mature game of Pokemon at times, and that's no bad thing.

Shin Megami Tensei is the series responsible for the popular Persona franchise, and now finally SMT has caught up to Persona in terms of how many mainline titles they share.

SMT5 looks surprisingly similar to this year's Shin Megami Tensei 3 Nocturne HD Remaster, which explains why the team wanted to get that into our hands before this new mainline game. Now that our memory is refreshed, we're ready to explore a ruined landscape with our demon buddies when the game launches on November 12.
