The story of Shovel Knight will be coming to an end in 2019, as the final expansion for the single-player game, as well as a new multiplayer expansion, will be released on April 9th.
IGN has reported that the bulk of upcoming Shovel Knight content will be released on April 9th, 2019. This includes the third and final single-player expansion for Shovel Knight, which is called King of Cards, which stars King Knight in a prequel story, as he battles the Three Kings and joins the Order of No Quarter.
Shovel Knight: King of Cards also includes a card game that greatly resembles Triple Triad from the Final Fantasy series.
There is also an upcoming multiplayer expansion for Shovel Knight, called Shovel Knight Showdown, which stars all of the knights from Shovel Knight, including the ones who do not appear in the expansions. The game is set to have sixteen different characters, including the Black Knight and The Enchantress.
The footage that has been released of Shovel Knight Showdown makes it look like a Shovel Knight version of Super Smash Bros. which is apt, considering that Shovel Knight will be appearing as an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
It bears mentioning that Shovel Knight Showdown will be free to all owners of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove... except for those who own the game on the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita. Yacht Club Games has confirmed that Shovel Knight Showdown will not be appearing on handheld systems.
A physical version of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove that contains all of the previously released expansions, as well as King of Cards and Shovel Knight Showdown, will also be released on April 9th for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.

The last big Shovel Knight release next will be for three new amiibos. You can already purchase a Shovel Knight amiibo, but he is joined by King Knight, Plague Knight, and Specter Knight.
The King of Cards expansion for Shovel Knight, Shovel Knight Showdown, and the amiibos for King Knight, Plague Knight, and Specter Knight will be released on April 9th, 2019.
