New Mod FINALLY Adds Shrek To Super Smash Bros

A new mod has done the unthinkable: added Shrek as a playable character to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Shrek. Ever since he was introduced in the 2001 classic feature film of the same name, he’s been the living embodiment of just how bizarre and weird the internet can be. Perhaps that’s because Shrek himself is an odd and bizarre hero, or maybe it’s because people are weird. Or maybe it’s a bit of both.

He’s been added to Skyrim, Grand Theft Auto V, and of course, Minecraft. And now he’s taking the plunge into the world’s greatest fighting game.

We have modder Hefty to thank for adding Shrek to Smash Bros. Ultimate’s lineup. As you can see in the video provided by YouTuber BeardBear, the model is pretty spot on. There’s Shrek’s big, grinning face, his soiled and disheveled tunic, and even his somewhat spindly legs (which seems to indicate that Shrek is the kinda guy to skip legs day).

The rest of the character is mostly Ganondorf, though. He uses Ganondorf's moveset, voice lines, and even is considered to be Ganondorf when he enters and exits the match. That said, the animations are all very convincing, although the head does seem to stay at slightly unnatural angles during some of Shrek’s moves.

Shrek’s expression doesn’t change throughout the battle, which is a little different from other Smash characters that will wince when struck and have looks of triumph upon defeating an opponent. We’re also not too sure about the whole purple magic thing, as Shrek is supposed to remain a non-magic-using ogre throughout his theatrical career.

One special touch is that the modder somehow managed to get the announcer guy to say “Shrek wins!” upon achieving victory. It’s a bit of a missed opportunity to not also put in “All Star” by Smash Mouth as the victory jingle, but maybe that’ll come in subsequent versions of the mod.

Although there has been a Change.org petition to add Shrek to Smash Bros., it seems unlikely that Nintendo will cave to Shrek fans’ demands on this one. But if they don’t, you can always add the creepy green ogre to the game yourself.
