At the rate live-action adaptations are being announced, the Fortnite movie, and the resultant IP singularity, is not too far away. Until then, however, we'll have to settle for IPs that don't involve other IPs, considering the film industry's newfound obsession with the video game industry. The latest game that will be getting a film adaptation is Sloclap's age-bending martial arts title, Sifu.

Released earlier this year, Sifu was on a lot of people's radars, as it looked to be a fun beat-em-up with precision choreography and neck-breaking combat. However, upon release, players soon found out that it was in fact a very difficult game, offering little to no respite if you happen to mistime a punch or block.

As reported by Deadline, the script for this movie will be written by John Wick's Derek Kolstad. It will be produced by Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, Dan Jevons, Timothy I. Stevenson, and Kolstad as well. The plot will remain the same as that of the game – a story of revenge, enveloped in a mind-bending narrative of becoming older with each death. As of now, it is being described as "John Wick meets M. Night Shyamalan's Old". There's no casting news or release date as of now. Considering that the adaptation was only just announced, we won't be hearing about it for a while.

However, you'll also be able to direct your own version of Sifu, thanks to new features recently introduced to the game. One of them is the Replay Editor, regarding which the devs told us that “the player was the choreographer, now they can be the director too.” You'll be able to change the camera angles to your liking, add all sorts of filters and effects, and anything else that you may want to spruce up your fight scenes. An upcoming update will soon introduce ten new arenas, each with their own challenges to beat. However, no new story content has been announced as of yet.

Considering the overwhelming success of Everything Everywhere All at Once, it appears that martial arts movies with mind-bending twists are in fashion.
