Something "big" is coming from Sifu developer Sloclap sometime next week. That's according to the devs themselves who teased us with an announcement on Twitter just a few days ago.
"We've got a big announcement coming up," wrote Sloclap. "Tune in next week for some exciting news about #SifuGame."
There was a gif of some previously-seen combat, which of course is what Sifu is all about, so perhaps we'll be getting a new trailer. We've already got a release date, and there's already been a few behind-the-scenes videos of the game's systems and development, so we're running out of big surprises to get excited about here.
In case you missed it, Sifu is coming out in February, which is going to be a really packed month in terms of game releases. The kung fu roguelike features a unique mechanic where after each death the character ages but also gain access to more skills and combat moves. Thus, the more the player fails, the more powerful they get until they become an unstoppable old kung fu master. It's a trope that has thus far never been turned into a game.
From what we've seen of Sifu, the combat itself will remind players of Batman Arkham or Sleeping Dogs, with lots of enemies surrounding a player who's free to plot their own violent course through the crowd. Punches, kicks, blocks, throws, and stamina-based executions are all part of your arsenal, but so is basically everything in the environment, like pots, pans, bottles, or even broken pieces of wood.
With combat being the main focus, Sifu's choreography is handled by an actual Pak Mei master who helped program over 150 moves into the game. And these aren't the typical moves you'll see in movies. You'll see far more realistic and deadly moves coming from Sifu.
Sifu will arrive on February 22 exclusively on PlayStation and PC, with the PS5 version offering better visuals and enhanced resolution--provided your TV can display 4K, of course.
