Even though Sony has only hinted at when the PlayStation 5 will be released, some retailers are already letting people sign up to be notified about preorders.

The current generation of consoles is coming to an end. It has been a good run, especially for the PlayStation 4 which has sold over 100 million units during its six-year lifetime. Sony is hoping the PlayStation 5 will enjoy a similar run, and we now know when the next-gen console will be released. This time next year.

Even though it is now less than a year until we are hit with a brand new PlayStation and a brand new Xbox, the companies behind them remain tight-lipped on what gamers should expect. Phrases such as cloud gaming and games as a service are being thrown around, and there has even been a video leaked showing off the PS5's loading times.

The little information available will not deter many from committing to the next generation of consoles. Some gamers may have already decided which one they'll be buying. If you're already a proud member of Camp Sony, we have some good news for you. A handful of major retailers are already allowing customers to sign-up to be notified of when PS5 preorders become available.

That's right, gamers can now preorder their preorder. According to Spieltimes, Best Buy in the US and Game in the UK are both offering the service. Sign up to the retailers' mailing lists and when the time comes that the PS5 can be preordered, those who signed up will be the first to know. The sign-up pages offer very little in the way of extra information, and the console's release date is simply "Holiday 2020."

Preordering has become somewhat of a plight on the gaming industry. Most companies don't offer a bonus for doing so and even if they do, it's rarely worth having. Signing up to be notified of when an item is available to be preordered, that might be a step too far. Nevertheless, we're certain many people will have signed up to the mailing lists. It's certainly a way to build some anticipation where there isn't much considering the little information revealed about the new console thus far.
