Capcom is single-handedly responsible for the remake trend in the video game industry, and boy, has it been great. The latest installment in this new direction, Resident Evil 4, has only taken things to the next level. It's this kind of competition that the Silent Hill 2 remake will face. Fans of the series have been burned for so long that every pixel in the upcoming remake will be under scrutiny; and nobody knows this better than Sam Barlow.

Barlow worked on Silent Hill: Origins and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, and knows just how much is expected from anyone who's making a game in the series. While he's not on board with the new remake-driven approach that Konami has followed suit with, he wished Bloober Team luck with the project.

“Personally, I’m less excited about playing a remaster,” he said in an interview with PCGamesN. “It’s also like the biggest poison chalice in video games, doing a remaster of Silent Hill 2. I mean, good luck to them because I don’t know how you can do that without upsetting people.”

“The version of Silent Hill that I would love – which it sounds like they’re pushing – is that ‘we use this as a platform to have a range of interesting psychological horror games,’ right? And actually, can we see a breadth of gameplay? You know, Twilight Zone, and those kinds of anthologies give you a sense of what you’re getting yourself in for but you’re also excited to see the different ways in which they can be explored.”

As for when we'll finally get to see Silent Hill 2 Remake, Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno has suggested that we won't have to wait much longer. The game is apparently almost done with development, but a few other things remain pending. “Silent Hill 2 is technically ready,” he explained. "It does not mean that the game is finished, but we are close.

However, the issue of the release schedule lies with our partners, what the promotion will look like and when the title will debut is not directly in our hands."
