Silent Hill's creator, Keiichiro Toyama, has said he'd like to create "something with some classic psychological horror themes like I did with Silent Hill".

Keiichiro Toyama is known for his work on games like Gravity Rush and Siren, but by far what he's best known for is creating Silent Hill, Konami's long-dormant horror series. Toyama has recently revealed his next game Slitterhead, which looks to focus more on action than horror, but that doesn't mean that he's giving up on psychological horror altogether.

As reported by IGN, Bokeh Game Studio posted a Q&A video of them answering some popular questions. During the video, Toyama talked about what sort of games he wants to make in the future, reflecting on his history with Silent Hill and revealing why Slitterhead looks to be going in a different direction.

Tomoya said, "I want someday to do something with some classic psychological horror themes like I did with Silent Hill. However, I’d rather do that when working with really limited resources, such as budget or having to focus on one individual. Right now, we have staff with the ability to work on action. I want to leverage their skills to go in another direction. Still, I also want to make something more personal someday."

If you're worried from this description that Slitterhead is going to focus too much on action, then don't worry as Toyama also talked about some of the moments in Slitterhead that focus a bit more on psychological horror. Toyama said, "I wanted a game that could be enjoyed for its action, yet whose concept doesn’t solely revolve around killing enemies. It conflicts with the mind, making the players reluctant to enter certain fights. I want to achieve both action and drama with this game."

Slitterhead was revealed as part of The Game Awards 2021 and looks to focus much more on action and body horror than it does psychological horror. We've only had one trailer for the game so far, but it looks set to release some time in 2023.
