Simpsons fans are so desperate for someone, anyone to remaster Hit & Run that modders have taken matters into their own hands. One group of modders has gone one big step further than dragging the iconic game into 2022, though. It has rebuilt all of its models from the ground up and turned Hit & Run into a Futurama game instead.

The terrific-looking project comes courtesy of the appropriately named Slurm Team, and it has been three years in the making. It's been a while since Slurm Team provided any sort of update on its Futurama mod, possibly leading some to believe it had been given up on. Thankfully, that is not the case, and an all-new trailer for Futurama: Hit & Run can be found below.

The Futurama take on the classic Simpsons game will only be a demo, for now, but its creators are hoping the demo will be available to play by the end of August, early September at the latest. As you can see in the trailer, not only are the likes of Fry, Bender, and Leela playable, but the game actually includes voice clips from the show. Fry even says “take my money” at one point which has become one of the most widely used memes in existence long after it featured on the show.

The Simpsons is one of the most famous TV shows on the planet. It stands to reason it has received the video game treatment numerous times from Hit & Run to Road Rage to Simpsons Wrestling. Outside of mobile games, Futurama has only been given a video game spinoff one time. A PS2 title that was received so poorly compared to its successful Simpsons cousins, a GameCube port of the title was quickly canceled.

If you're a Futurama fan and the idea of a game built on Hit & Run's foundation appeals to you, keep your eyes peeled for Slurm Team's demo which should be launching very soon. As for that Hit & Run remake, you might need to rely on those aforementioned mods. One very talented YouTuber has been creating Hit & Run's Springfield in an open world format, and the work they've done so far is pretty remarkable.
