The Sims 4's latest expansion pack, Discover University, is packed with a range of new build and buy items to help your young adults feel more at home in their new university dorms, houses or shared accommodation. Some items are much more flexible than others but there is a reasonable range. Here's what you can expect.

Windows And Windows And Doors, Oh My!

In Discover University the basic student dorms are not editable by default so it makes sense that the pack would choose instead to focus on furniture. However, there are still some basic build items including wallpapers, doors, and windows, lots of windows.

The wallpapers are mostly for exteriors, featuring five different types of stone including modern and traditional. There are also decorative dormer windows and chimneys, all fitting the theme of the non-editable buildings, allowing for new buildings to fit the look of each campus.

For those of you who love windows, there are a massive twenty-four new windows in a variety of styles and colors. Some of them are variants of existing windows, while others are brand new. They fit the university buildings but also look to match well with many of the existing doors and windows, bringing some flexibility to other builds.

You can also expect a new hanging basket and planter, some doors, and a balcony as well as a funky hexagonal floor pattern. Finally, a new fence and two columns round out the new build catalog.

Personalizing Your Space

As you may expect the rest of the build and buy items are firmly focused around making your dorm space feel like home. They include new beds, chairs, bedside tables, and desks. There are also other bits of furniture you'd expect to find in university accommodation including bookshelves, stools, blinds, curtains, computers and coffee tables.

The selection is varied enough that you could comfortably furnish a dorm and add a unique touch just by using base game and items from this expansion pack.

These items are accompanied by a range of posters as well as some rugs, flags, succulents, and other small clutter items. It is with this clutter that you can truly personalize as all these items can be dragged from your inventory into your dorm, with no need to use build and buy mode.

New Activities

The catalog's final additions comprise new and practical items, including a soccer ball you can play with, a bike you can ride, a ping pong table, and a new robotics station. There's also a bar, debate platforms, some vendor stalls, and new communal showers and toilet stalls. You can even purchase college essentials of a microwave, mini-fridge, and juice keg.

The showers and toilets provide a new way to decorate communal bathrooms and bikes and soccer balls are usable in every world, allowing for new hobbies for sims to indulge in.

Overall, the items are once again very tailored to the expansion's theme but most could also be used in everyday builds, especially teen's bedrooms.

The Sims 4 Discover University releases on November 15th, 2019 for PC and December 17th for PC. This preview is based on a hands-on PC demo conducted by TheGamer at the EA offices.
