The Sims team has announced that The Sims 4 base game will be free on PC and Mac until May 28.

To claim your copy of the life simulation game, you’ll need an Origin account. Once signed in, you’ll be able to see the game listed as free on the Origin Store. The offer is a limited time deal and is set to expire on May 28.

The deal was announced on Twitter. Sims fans have spent the day speculating about all things Sims after SimGuruLyndsay, the GM for the game, put out a cryptic message on Twitter.

After a random Tweet resurfaced on her timeline, Lyndsay decided to drop some hints to Simmers. In the comments, she says that one number relates to days, one number hints at events, and another number is a hint.

While Simmers quickly worked out that EA Play is in 18 days, other fans have thought up some interesting answers. Most of them theorize that the tweet is related to an expansion announcement, which the community feels is imminent.

Back in April, the team announced that there will be an expansion, a game pack, and a stuff pack coming within the next six months, as well as a new free update.

The update has already been released and brought new clothes, items, and a new freelance career. Since then, there has been no other news about new content.

With EA Play just over two weeks away, many fans believe that an expansion announcement is imminent. Last year, the Seasons expansion was announced on May 24, with EA Play taking place just over two weeks later. If this year follows a similar pattern, we should expect to find out the title of the new pack within the next few days.

While many are hoping it will be university-themed, the strongest rumor in the community right now is that a tropical expansion, similar to Island Paradise, is on its way. This is due to the fact that a tropical expansion was listed on a gaming retailer’s website. However, it’s worth noting that the original date on the listing was the date that the last expansion, Get Famous, was released, so it could be a generic placeholder for future content.

Whatever the next pack is, we'll surely find out more soon enough since EA Play is just around the corner, taking place from June 7 to 9.
