The very first expansion for The Sims 4, Get To Work hasn't aged as well as some other earlier content but there is still a lot to discover. Systems and concepts introduced in this expansion paved the way for later developments and gave players a taste of new ideas, such as the interactive careers.

Get To Work was also the first pack to introduce an occult lifestate to the game, giving us aliens and the planet Sixam. There's also a lot more to uncover, even if some parts don't work quite as intended.

Here we take a look at the expansion's main features to help you decide if Get To Work fits your playstyle and preferences before you buy it.

10 It Introduced Active Careers

The biggest selling point of this pack is active careers. Sims can choose to be a scientist, detective or doctor and players can follow them around and control them for their entire workday.

Each career has its own unique lot and the tasks you'll need to complete are focused around the lot. Scientists conduct experiments and build inventions, Detectives gather evidence, solve cases and arrest suspects, and Doctors investigate, diagnose, and treat illnesses. The careers can be buggy but are very unique and offer a different way to play.

9 Sims Can Visit The Hospital To Give Birth

The hospital doesn't just serve as a base for the doctor career. Sims can also visit the hospital in order to give birth. Pregnant sims will need to sign in at the desk before they are taken to a room.

The caesarian like procedure looks terrifying but offers a great alternative to those who don't want to just stand by a basinet and give birth in record time.

8 You Can Create Retail Stores

Retail stores are more useful than they first appear. Sims can use cash registers, shelving, mannequins, and display units to showcase and sell their wares. Prices can be marked up to a level of your choice and there are new interactions to help sales.

Most build and buy items can be sold in retail stores, alongside clothing items displayed in the store. Sims can also sell items they produce.

7 It Allows Sims To Learn Baking and Photography Skills

Sims are given a ridiculously large cupcake machine as well as a new baking skill. Products made using these skills can then be sold in a retail store, meaning you can open your own bakery.

Photography is also a new skill with this pack, giving sims cameras and the ability to use them to take still images of themselves and others before displaying them on the wall.

6 There's A Shopping District

Magnolia Promenade is the new world for this pack. It comprises just four lots, set up as a stand-alone shopping district. Three are already filled with pre-built stores while the fourth plot is empty.

The world is one of the blandest and the smallest in the game but being able to separate stores entirely does have some advantages, especially if you don't want them taking over other worlds.

5 There's A New Alien Life State

Aliens are the first occult life state that made an appearance in the game and as such, while their implementation is ok, it isn't as solid as later occults. They can appear in alien form or disguise themselves as regular sims.

You can create aliens in create-a-sim or have alien children through relationships or alien abduction. The pack also helps you control abduction through the use of a satellite made by the scientist career that changes the frequency of contact.

4 You Can Visit The Planet Of Sixam

The Sims 4 aliens live on Sixam, a planet that sims can visit using technology created in the scientist career. It takes a while to unlock but will allow easy transport from one area to another and can be used by any sim.

The planet is quite bare but does house a number of aliens as well as some strange plants that collection enthusiasts will want to pick up.

3 There's A New Collection

Sims can now collect geodes. These are found by the discovery and analysis of different gems. The gems are found on Sixam as well as around the science lab. They can be located elsewhere but are rarer. Scientist sims can then send them to be analyzed or do it themselves in the lab.

The science career isn't essential to complete this collection but it makes it much faster, due to the science lab lot being hidden, only visitable during work hours for scientists.

2 The Create-A-Sim Items Include Tattoos And Makeup

With aliens being added to the game you'll find a few futuristic looking outfits in create-a-sim, designed to fit aliens undisguised appearances. There are also a few more common and casual pieces for regular sims.

However, the standout of this pack is the abundance of hairstyles, makeup options, tattoos, and accessories. Many are vibrant and not necessarily good for everyday use but regardless they offer a huge amount of options for both alien and regular sims.

1 Build And Buy Is Full Of Shelves And Storage

As expected in a retail-focused pack, many new items are focused around storage. There are counters, shelves, pedestals, and mannequins. You'll also find signs as well as other general office equipment.

Most items won't get used in regular homes and several fit the specific careers, with detective, medical, and science-themed items all being present. However, there are lighting options, tables, and chairs as well as wall art that is more usable.
