In Island Living for The Sims 4 players have a chance to live the truly tropical life in the new residential world of Sulani. Unlike previous tropical-themed packs that enabled you to vacation in the sun, this one focuses on the experience of living on an island.

You can enjoy the rich culture of Sulani with its friendly neighbors and frequent events as well as its beautiful views. This pack explores island communities and cultures, taking cues from Polynesian culture. It's vibrant and variable but had a mixed response from gamers. Here's what you need to know about the pack's contents so you can decide if it fits your preferred playstyle.

10 Sulani Responds To Your Actions

The beautiful island of Sulani was the first world to respond to your actions. It begins in a fairly neutral state and can be adjusted to bloom and grow or become dirty and dull. If you look after the ecosystem, by picking up trash and other similar positive actions the world will grow.

Players who cause problems with litter, ignore issues, and generally neglect the place will see it become duller. The actions needed in either direction aren't too major and the footprint is much easier to adjust than those in Eco Lifestyle. One player can change the island with a few beach trawling actions and taking care of the random vegetation.

9 There Are Neighborhood Events To Enjoy

Around the islands, different neighborhood events will take place. These include turtle hatching, and festivals as well as smaller pop-up events. There's no system to let you know when events will be so you need to explore to find them.

There is also a new type of party, a kava party, and you'll find that neighbors more frequently visit. Expect to be brought food and quickly helped out in a crisis. This community looks out for each other.

8 You Can Be A Mermaid

The pack introduces a new occult life state of mermaid. You can create mermaids in create-a-sim or change existing sims using mermaidic kelp, found in an explorable cave. Mermaids appear as regular sims but their hygiene bar is replaced with hydration, requiring them to get into water frequently. Their tails only appear once they are submerged.

Mermaids have some powers of control over others and build up relationships quickly with dolphins. However, they do not have a point-based skill system like some of the other occult life states such as vampires.

7 There's A Conservationist Career

There is a new conservationist career that is a semi-active career. You can choose to go to work via a rabbit hole or stay at home and complete tasks. The tasks include exploring caves, finding and researching plants, and other similar activities.

The career allows you to implement some changes on the island and the work from home tasks are very island focused, meaning it would be difficult to play this career while living elsewhere.

6 You Can Do Part Time Or Odd jobs

Island life is much more relaxed and the game aids this with an overhaul of part-time jobs and the addition of odd jobs. Part-time jobs can now be taken on by any sim of teen or above and odd jobs are just that, one-off odd jobs.

Part-time careers can be accessed in the usual way and some will let you choose your hours, making them ideal for fitting around other activities. Odd jobs can be picked up from a list available during regular working hours. Some will send you on a rabbit hole and others will give you a specific, often island focused, task to complete.

5 You Can Go Diving For Collectibles

Buoys in the ocean will allow you to snorkel or deep dive, depending on their location. Mermaids can free dive ease but regular sims will need to purchase diving equipment via the buoy.

The events are rabbit holes but you can gain a number of valuable and beautiful collectibles from both activities. You can also collect underwater photographs with a camera.

4 Sims Can Enjoy The Sand And Sun

There are several new sun and sand-based activities to enjoy. As well as diving sims can also ride aqua zips or sail in catamarans. You can even swim in the ocean, and open bodies of water elsewhere as well. Those who love dolphins can make friends with them and anyone feeling adventurous can woohoo in the waterfalls.

In terms of dry land activities, sims can build sandcastles or sunbathe as well as going beachcombing for shells.

3 You Can Build Over The Water

In Sulani there are several waterfront lots that allow you to build a home that goes straight over the water. The addition of stilt foundations and pier ladders also means you have easy access to the ocean at all times. You just can't have a basement on water front lots.

Decks can be used for sunbathing, diving into the ocean, and hosting kava parties. You can also use them to keep aqua zips, catamarans and pool floats handy.

2 The Create-A-Sim items Are Tropically Tasteful

The create-a-sim items are summery, colorful, and boldly patterned. You can see the cultural influences as you scroll through the catalog.

There is a range of new swimsuits and shorts, summer dresses, coverups, bold shirts, and other summer suitable items. While the colors are vibrant the patterns are variable meaning there are styles to suit all tastes.

1 The Build And Buy Choices Let You Build An Island Paradise

Sulani is an island full of beautiful beach homes and the build and buy items reflect that. There are lots of natural flooring and wall options as well as some wooden windows and doors perfectly suited to the climate.

In terms of furniture, fans are the biggest addition and you can also find beds with drapes, thin flowing curtains, and a number of bold tropical patterns. While many items may not fit elsewhere they are perfect for Sulani and match well together.
