If you've never had the fortune of playing any of The Sims series, then you're definitely missing out. It's not everyone's cup of tea (no game is) but there is no denying that it's globally accepted as one of the most entertaining "simulators" on the market. We use the word "simulators" lightly because The Sims is far from accurate or realistic. It's wild, wacky, interesting, and imaginative, to say the least. If you're looking for a game to accurately match the sometimes humdrum adventure of everyday life, this isn't it. If you're looking for a hilarious and entertaining game that will allow you to live the life you've always wanted and create a fishbowl community of interesting people, you've come to the right place.

Humans talk in strange noises, houses are built in seconds, and the absolute strangest people move in next door. You'll see sims eat dinner in the bathroom and pass out on the chair next to their incredibly comfortable bed. Each journey through The Sims is nothing short of exhilarating and you'll find yourself addicted in no time.

Thanks to the beauty and entertainment of this long-standing series, there is an abundance of fan art to sift through. Better yet, there are fan-made comics that collect hilarious moments and questionable situations from the franchise.

We've collected 20 hilarious (and sometimes depressing) comics that show the good, bad, and ugly, of The Sims.

20 Wishful Thinking

Via: princesa-daisy.deviantart.com

The Sims has become such a cultural phenomenon that it finds itself included in a variety of other mediums. In this instance, we find a well-known (yet second fiddle) plumber enjoying some downtime by loading up a copy of the popular simulation game. It seems like he's having a good time, building a home and creating a virtual life by inputting himself into the adventure. He even included Princess Daisy as his significant other.

Unfortunately, he left the door open during his endeavors.

We've all experienced the outward embarrassment of someone walking in at just the right (wrong) time when we're witnessing a certain cut-scene or particularly intense moment. Even video game characters aren't immune to this face-reddening phenomenon. Perhaps it's wishful thinking on Luigi's part. Comic by Princesa-Daisy.

19 Simulated Evil

Via: Vg Cats

It's a sad and unfortunate truth that a lot of Sims don't get the love and attention they deserve. Each and everyday these poor virtual souls are put through the wringer thanks to stressed-out gamers looking to blow off a little steam. We've all be there at least once or twice, so it's understandable, but it doesn't make it any less heart-wrenching.

All kidding aside, the desire to put our Sims to the test has been deeply rooted in the gaming community since the iconic series first launched. Most of us see our Sims perish by complete accident, but others like to "hurry things along" so to speak. They'll do anything they can to ensure that their Sims end up going out in a blaze of glory. They're only bits of computer code but we still can't help but feel bad for them. Comic by VG Cats.

18 Some Just Want To Watch The World Burn

Via: C. Cassandra

We might as well continue the trial by fire (pun intended) with this next comic. If you're a hardcore Sims player, your main goal is to amass as much wealth as possible and allow your Sim to retire among the rest of the virtual royalty. That's the basic goal anyway. The true victory conditions aren't nearly as black and white. Some opt for simplicity while others go after as much fame as possible.

It's inevitable that there will be hiccups along the way and you can be sure that you'll lose at least one Sim to completely unforeseen circumstances. There are people out there that don't like to light their Sims ablaze but aren't opposed to watching the events unfold, should it happen. To be fair, it's like a train wreck. It's almost impossible to look away. Comic by C. Cassandra.

17 The Ultimate Fanboy

Via: onewingedmuse.deviantart.com

We'd talk about Fullmetal Alchemist all day if we could. It's perhaps one of the best anime series ever conceived (Brotherhood is better in our opinion). There are so many amazing elements, between the awesome character personalities, the stellar environments, and the solid animation. It's no wonder so many people hold the series in such high regard.

There are even artists that go as far as to create crossovers with other popular series.

Take this Sims-inspired FMA crossover for example, which shows Roy Mustang boasting about his virtual adventure to Edward Elric. Roy has the two as roommates in his virtual world but instantly regrets his decision when the Sims become a little too close. We imagine this is a fantasy for a lot of dedicated FMA fans (as well as Roy x Edward shippers). Comic by OneWingedMuse.

16 What If This Is True?

Via: Um Sabado Qualquer

Have you ever experience that ever-so-eerie moment when you enter a room only to forget "why you came in there in the first place?" It's a strange phenomenon that gives us the willies. Some people even suggest it's the work of a strange paranormal force or a benevolent entity. But what if it's the work of something else?

This comic explores the idea that we're all just playing one giant game of The Sims, controlled by an omnipresent being in the clouds. That seems far-fetched, but it would definitely explain why some of us are naturally gifted at certain things, while others have to worry about burning their homes down every time they want to make breakfast. If this is all true, we request our maker forces us to read more books so we can become better at things. Comic by UmSabadoQualquer.

15 If Only It Were True

Via: Odyssey

This sort of ties in with the last comic. A lot of people would be shocked and terrified to learn that we were all just part of some big Sims game. Can you imagine realizing that you were just part of some simulation all along and don't really exist? It's an absolutely mind-rattling thought and definitely doesn't help the existential dread that some of us experience from time to time.

But it isn't all bad. After all, if this TRULY was like The Sims, we'd be able to take all kinds of amazing shortcuts to make our lives better. Imagine reading a few books and suddenly being able to perform brain surgery or rocket science. Not to mention all of the amazing cheat codes that could fill our wallets. Comic by Adam Ellis.

14 A Real Good Time

Via: Dorkly

The Sims isn't the most realistic of life simulators but it does a great job at including as much real life stuff as possible. One of the main reason people like to indulge in The Sims is because it allows them to relax and enjoy life without having to think about the sometimes tiring monotony of real life burdens. Cleaning the house can be fun virtually.

But developers went a step further and added in other aspects as well.

Your Sim will need to use the restroom, eat, drink, and even mate (if you want them to have a family). Thankfully, the actual act isn't even detailed and really just includes a few awkward scenes of blurred pixels and woo-hoo noises. Which leads us to this hilarious comic. Imagine trying to teach a Sim how that act is really done? Comic by Dorkly.

13 Mistakes Were Made

Via: rizkirafu.deviantart.com

If you turn your Sim into a social butterfly, you're going to have to deal with an abundance of party-throwing and social events. The best part is, you're in control when it comes to deciding who and what attends these affairs. Because of this ultimate power, things can get a little out of hand. Thankfully, no people end up on fire in this comic but it does show what happens when Sims aren't completely specific about what they want.

The party is in full swing and this gentleman is ready to bring out a grown-up dancer. Unfortunately, he decided to let his buddy book the entertainment. The singles must have been crossed because the man in question is expecting a lady but is met with the best male dancer in the area. Comic by RizKirafu.

12 I Want To Play A Game

Via: Pinterest

As you've already seen, people can be pretty mean to their Sims. Some are content with locking them out of the bathroom or forcing them to live in tiny locations, but others take things quite a bit further. Fire is an occurring theme in the many mishaps of The Sims but water can be just as devastating. In this instance, it's the inclusion of a swimming pool, something meant to bring Sims joy, exercise, and relaxation.

Many discovered that you could doom your Sims to destruction by simply removing the ladder from the pool once they're inside. This forces the victim to perish in the pool, floating until they finally give in. It's a pretty messed up thing to do but a good way to get rid of Sims that are annoying you.

11 Cleaning Isn't Fun

Via: Pinterest

People play The Sims because it often allows them to experience things that they are currently unable to experience in real life. Yet, for some reason, many find joy in the mundane chores and everyday tasks that humans are already accustomed to. Many of us are forced to pick up our messes, do the dishes, clean the windows, and vacuum the house. If we don't, we end up drowning in piles of our own garbage. It's not a pretty sight, which is why a lot of people plan dedicated times to clean up, ensuring that they live in a healthy environment.

Unfortunately, there are still those of us that struggle with these everyday chores.

We find them fun when it comes to The Sims, but we want nothing to do with them in a real life setting. It's always much more fun to watch someone clean up a mess than actually getting your hands dirty. Comic by TomPreston.

10 If Only Life Were This Easy

Via: Buzzfeed

Not to bring the room down, but life can be pretty hard at times. It's a sad and unfortunate truth that there are many trials and tribulations on this crazy adventure. No one has the right answers, everyone is just trying to survive, and we could all afford to be a little nicer to one another. Heck, it's one of the reasons so many people escape to video games at the end of a particularly long and trying day. Sometimes we just want to immerse ourselves in a virtual world and forget about all the struggles of the outside world.

Sadly, all The Sims seems to do is remind us of what we don't actually have. It can be pretty easy to find a job, build a house, get married, and have a rockin' social life via your virtual avatar. In the real world, these things take a lot of effort and time. Comic by Adam Ellis.

9 Productively Unproductive

Via: C. Cassandra

People throw around the words "video game addiction" a lot in the modern age. A lot of us are simply avid gamers who love to play and engage on wildly imaginative adventures. Books and movies are much the same, our entertainment just happens to be a little more interactive. Yet, there are some sad instances in which video game addiction is real. It can be downright crippling and can cause huge problems later on. It leads to procrastination, which is devastating under the right conditions. Sometimes you HAVE to get things done, even if you don't want to.

The clarion call of The Sims can prove too strong even for the most hardened life-veterans. We've all been here once or twice, ignoring chores to escape to a pixelated world. Just don't forget to show up to work or you'll have a hard time paying your bills. Comic by C. Cassandra.

8 Alone And Forgotten

Via: Wicked Reasoning

Imagine a world in which video games don't actually turn off, even when you aren't playing. Sure, there are games which use tracking technology and clocks to keep up with events that happen "during idle time," but we're talking about an instance in which the characters simply do their own thing a la Wreck It Ralph style. This would be especially troubling for The Sims, since they rely on us to tell them when they've done too much (or not enough).

Thankfully, The Sims takes care of our pixelated patrons when we aren't around but we still can't help but feel like a missing deity when we're away. Do you think they call out to the heavens, begging for food, shelter, and structure? It's a pretty depressing thought... Comic by Wicked Reasoning.

7 Against Their Will

Via: mattwilson83.deviantart.com

This sort of ties into the last post. If your Sim views you as an all-powerful being, are they disturbed and disgruntled by the fact that you can literally control their every move? How terrible would it be if your Sim had feelings and emotions but was forced to perform mundane tasks at your discretion.

What if they just spent an agonizingly long day at work and they just wanted to sit down for a few moments and relax?

They wouldn't be able to, since we're always prodding them to do things, like clean the house, throw a party, cook, or paint a masterpiece. We can't imagine how rough it would be if we had to live our lives in the same way. It would be downright exhausting. Comic by MattWilson83.

6 A Devastating Loss

Via: Pinterest

A lot of these comics cross the line for silly fourth-wall breaking reasons or scandalous behavior. This next comic crosses the line because its an incredibly dark look into a real world issue that unfortunately plagues a lot of would-be families. We won't go into too much detail because we don't want to outright depress everyone but the comic in question is shining light on the incredibly devastating loss of a child, specifically one just entering the world.

This horribly saddened individual has taken to The Sims to dull the pain. We can't even begin to imagine what that must feel like and wish there was a way that no one would ever have to experience this kind of loss ever again. Hopefully a not-so-distant future will make that possible.

5 Who's Controlling Who?

Via: harpyqueen.deviantart.com

The Sims can be an amazingly relaxing and entertaining experience. Creating a character, building a house, and collecting virtual NPC friends is a lot more engaging than it sounds. After buying the game and installing it for the first time, you're likely to be shocked at how addicting it becomes. Before you know it, you're corralling as many Sims as possible and creating your own virtual neighborhood. Heck, you can even use it to plan your own life.

But at what point does the addiction become so strong that you end up repeating the same actions over and over? After hours and hours of play, things start to hit a little too close to home. Hopefully you don't look up one day and notice a green bauble floating above your head. Hey, some people speculate that we're all living in a simulation. Maybe they aren't wrong. Comic by HarpyQueen.

4 Virtually Projecting

Via: wandaluvstacos.deviantart.com

It's no surprise that a lot of people decided to design their Sims after themselves. After all, the game is designed to be the "ultimate life simulator," allowing you to take control of your very own virtual avatar and manipulate them to your will. A lot of people are going to create avatars that represent themselves so that it feels like they're living a double life, that they're on a grandiose adventure where they can ensure that everything goes right for them.

Hopefully, they just don't grow obsessed like the person in this comic.

They're forcing their avatar to obtain things that they really want in life, only to get downright indignant when their virtual pawns don't react accordingly. Some people like the ability to play God, until it goes south, of course. Comic by WandaLuvsTacos.

3 Take A Seat

Via: kelvarin.deviantart.com

Try as it might, The Sims isn't perfect. To be honest, thanks to its comedic overtones and cartoony actions, we doubt it was ever aiming for perfect in the first place. It's not a "real life" simulator. Sure, it lets you create an avatar and place them into real world situations, but you'll soon find out just how wonky the A.I. can be. When you aren't assigning them tasks, your Sims will walk around and do their own thing, which can be downright weird in some instances.

For example, sometimes your Sim will grab themselves a plate of food and plop down on any available seat in the house to chow down. Unfortunately, this even includes seats within the bathroom. Pair this with another Sim exiting the shower and you can see how quickly things become awkward. Comic by Kelvarin.

2 Procrastinating For Work

Via: shadowcy.deviantart.com

Have you ever met a person that seems to have an intelligent answer for literally everything? You know, those people that seem to wriggle out of every responsibility because they have a silver tongue. Sometimes, even the worst procrastinators can seem like workaholics if they spin their web of lies well enough.

Just take a look at this next comic for example. This Sims player has perfected the art of making it seem like they're working, even though they're actually engaged in countless hours of their favorite life simulator. They get caught in the act by someone else, who accuses them of not working. Thinking quickly, they claim they need it to "create designs for work." We envy people that have this crazy ability. Comic by Shadowcy.

1 Too Much Of A Good Thing

Via: shadowcy.deviantart.com

We've already explored why playing The Sims too much is a bad thing. It can lead to procrastination, avoidance of chores, and sometimes even a reevaluation of your own life choices. A few hours of simulated life and you might realize you've always wanted to be something else. The Sims has a penchant for making people feel like they're simply on the wrong path. But the game is more than just a "what could have been" simulator. It's also filled with its own culture.

This culture can deeply root itself in your veins if you're not careful. Pretty soon you'll find yourself speaking in strange noises and creating actions for yourself. We're pretty sure there are probably conventions around where people do exactly that. We don't judge. Comic by Shadowcy.
