The Dawnguard DLC introduced a lot of new concepts to the player, including the Volkihar Vampires, the Vampire Lord form, and the Dawnguard organization. Some things about the Dawnguard organization don't make any sense because the leaders act in an irrational way, among other peculiar facts.

The Dawnguard organization is supposed to be one of the most powerful groups in Skyrim, but they don't have any real resources and their influence is small. It goes without saying that the Dawnguard's role in the world of Skyrim makes little sense.

10 The Dawnguard Is A Small Group

The Dawnguard is a very small group of vampire hunters despite the fact that there is an epidemic of undead monsters wandering the land of Skyrim. Most people would assume that the Dawnguard would get some kind of support from the different holds of Skyrim, especially the Rift; however, this is not the case.

Instead, the player will only encounter a handful of different characters in the Dawnguard, and although the members that are part of this organization are quite resourceful, it would be surprising if they could actually defeat the Volkihar Vampires if the Dragonborn wasn't involved. The fact that the Dawnguard has so few members is shocking and doesn't make much sense.

9 The Dawnguard Have Huskies

Huskies are one of the most unique about the Dawnguard as they aren't found anywhere else in Skyrim. Isran and the other members of the organization have lived in Skyrim for quite a while, so it is weird that they would have this breed of dog.

It seems that Bethesda simply wanted to add this popular breed of dog to Skyrim. Since Huskies aren't found anywhere else in the region, it makes players wonder why they would be present at Fort Dawnguard.

8 The Dawnguard Have A Large Fort But No Armory

Although the Dawnguard does have a few weapons and pieces of armor lying around their fort, Fort Dawnguard doesn't have a decent armory when compared to some of the smaller Forts that found throughout the land of Skyrim.

Dawnguard is a massive fortress, and even if the previous Dawnguard members took a lot of their equipment with them when they disbanded the organization, it still doesn't make sense that there wouldn't be more weapons leftover since the location is so huge.

7 Crossbows Are Only Used By The Dawnguard

Crossbows are one of the most fun weapon types to use in Skyrim, and it is a shame that the upgraded versions of the Crossbow can only be obtained by siding with the Dawnguard.

It seems peculiar that a powerful weapon such as a Crossbow can only be created by the Dawnguard, and that they wouldn't share this vampire hunting technology with cities to help keep them safe. If the Dawnguard truly cared about the people of Skyrim, then they would probably consider sharing the schematics for the Crossbow.

6 The Dawnguard Is Rude Towards Serana

A screenshot of NPC Serana, with an Elder Scroll.

Serana is one of the only vampires that has ever tried to aid the Dawnguard, and she is treated horribly by the Dawnguard during the DLC. Although the Dawnguard eventually warm up to her after they defeat Harkon, it doesn't excuse how rude they are to their ally.

It is understandable that some members of the Dawnguard wouldn't immediately trust Serana, but the fact that they are so rude towards somebody who was somewhat forced to become a vampire is terrible, and it doesn't align with the values that Isran often speaks of.

5 The Volkihar Vampires Never Attack Fort Dawnguard

The Volkihar Vampires have all of the resources that they need to attack Fort Dawnguard and put an end to their threat. But it never happens, with the exception of a quest where the Dragonborn is sent to dispose of them by themselves.

As mentioned, the Dawnguard is a small organization with few members, and the Volkihar Vampires are much more powerful than them simply because they have magical abilities that can't be rivaled by the Dawnguard's Crossbows. Even if the Dawnguard doesn't present an immediate threat to the Volkihar Vampires, they clearly could be if they recruit more members.

4 Rumors Claim Former Dawnguard Members Became Vampires

A vampire snarling at the player in Skyrim

There are rumors that can be found in the lore of Skyrim that state that members of the Dawnguard who were a part of it when the organization was first founded may have eventually contracted vampirism purposefully so that they could gain vampiric abilities.

Although it makes sense that a person would want to become a Vampire so that they could be magically stronger, what doesn't make sense is how a principled Dawnguard member could turn to vampirism to gain strength and power since that is everything they swore to defeat.

3 Fort Dawnguard Was Built To Imprison A Single Vampire

Fort Dawnguard was originally built during the second era to keep the Rift Jarl's son prisoner. The child had turned into a vampire, and the large Fort was supposed to conceal his powers because the Jarl could not bring himself to kill his own child.

Eventually, a group of vampire hunters formed out of Fort Dawnguard and became mercenaries that hunted down vampires. It doesn't make sense that a fort as large as Fort Dawnguard would be built to house a single person, even if they were a powerful Vampire.

2 The Dawnguard Have A Unique Warhammer And Axe

The Dawnguard have a special type of Axe and Warhammer that they are able to craft, which is peculiar since they are spending valuable resources on forging weapons that aren't much more powerful than weapons that are created by other types of material.

The Dawnguard needs all of their members working on the utmost important tasks, and creating these unique weapons that look fancy isn't important, especially since the organization has so few members to begin with.

1 The Dawnguard Captures And Trains Trolls

Although the Dawnguard huskies don't make much sense since they aren't found throughout the rest of Skyrim, Armored Trolls take the cake for being weird since this wouldn't be feasible for most organizations.

The Dawnguard has very few resources, and it seems that they're using them to track down trolls, capture them, and then equip them with powerful armor. Similar to how spending time on creating unique weapons instead of recruiting doesn't make much sense, creating Armored Trolls that aren't especially obedient isn't a good game plan, and Isran should be more strategic.
