Skyrim is a giant world full of wide and open spaces, and as such, there are many different locations that were easily missed by players exploring the icy tundra. Locations such as a hidden lighthouse and a county jail were never visited by the more casual players of Skyrim, and it is a shame because some of them are very exciting to explore.

10 Shrine Of Boethiah

The Shrine Of Boethiah has a lot of dedicated followers of Boethiah residing at it. Fans will find a cult-like atmosphere when they enter this area, and there will be an arena where followers fight each other for the amusement of the Daedric Prince.

Players will also find a Daedric quest to complete in this location, and it yields one of the best rewards that players can obtain in the game. This reward is called the Ebony Mail and has a powerful enchantment that damages players in a certain vicinity. This location is worth a visit, and because it's out of the way, it deserves a spot on this list.

9 Maven Blackbriar's Basement

Most players didn't spend time visiting each individual house in Riften, and as such, they never discovered Maven Blackbriar's basement. Inside of this basement, fans will find a Dark Brotherhood ritual that she has performed to call the assassins to her aid.

This is one the most interesting spots in the game, and so many fans missed it because it was hidden in the house of this hated character. Hopefully, more little tidbits like this one are added in future Elder Scrolls games because it was fun to discover!

8 Castle Karstaag's Ruins & Caverns

The castle Karstaag ruins and caverns allow the player to fight one of the most difficult bosses in the entire game. This location is located on Solstheim, and fans should only come here if they are ready for a challenge like no other in Skyrim.

The location itself is covered in ice, and fans will find Reiklings residing inside of the caverns. Traveling here won't be easy, so players should remember to bring their favorite suit of armor and a trusty sword.

7 Frostflow Lighthouse

The Frostflow Lighthouse has a bunch of interesting things for players to obtain while adventuring in it. A few things include a bug in a jar that players can use as decorations and a permanent buff of the player's restoration spells.

Both of these things and many other rewards await the player when they explore this lighthouse, and it is so easy to miss because it is out in the middle of nowhere in the Winterhold region. This lighthouse is a location worth exploring without a doubt!

6 Bard's Leap Summit

Bard's Leap Summit is located in the Reach, and fans will find a ghost here that will speak to them and convince the player to jump. As the name suggests, there is a giant leap that fans can take into some water below a cliff, and it is one of the weirdest places in the game because there is a ghost of a dead bard that will interact with the player.

Players can travel here by heading southeast of Markarth, and once they arrive, they should look around for a cliff with water below and a passive ghost. Visiting this location is a must for any Skyrim sightseer, and it's no surprise because it has a cool back story that is rivaled by few others in the game.

5 Japhet's Folly

This location is only accessible while the quest "Rise In The East" is active. The quest will see the player sailing off to this island that is home to many different bandits, and the only notable location on this iceberg is a keep that players can explore.

Without spoiling the quest, players will find a bunch of enemies and loot at this location, and it is only available once while completing the quest. Players should make the most out of their time at Japhet's Pholly and see everything that they want to before eventually completing the quest and sailing back to Skyrim.

4 Orc Strongholds

There are a total of five Orc Strongholds located throughout Skyrim, and there are many interesting characters and quests to complete for these groups of Orcs.

The most notable of these quests being a Daedric quest called "A Cursed Tribe" and fans can obtain a powerful Warhammer if they follow the quest in its entirety. The orcs strongholds are somewhat out of the way of the normal path, but they are worth adventuring to if a traveler would like to meet some interesting new characters.

3 The Aetherium Forge

The Aetherium Forge was added with the Dawnguard DLC, and this was one of the side quests in the expansion pack. If fans follow the quest for finding this location, then they will obtain a special piece of equipment that they can use to further their combat prowess. These special equipment include a Crown, Shield, or Staff.

It's worth following this quest even though it takes a few hours to complete because seeing this location and the ancient forge is a memory worth having. There are also a few chests that fans can find if they traverse the lava around the forge itself, so it is worth exploring the underground dungeon if fans have the time.

2 Frostmoon Crag

Frostmoon Crag is located on the island of Solstheim, and it is home to many different werewolves that will be peaceful with the player if they are a werewolf themselves.

The most notable thing about this hidden location is that the werewolves will sell the player a few special rings to improve their ability while transformed. This location is completely out of the way, but it is worth the time that it takes to travel to it because the player will become an even more powerful version of their already strong werewolf form.

1 Winterhold's Prison

Winterhold prison is a jail cell that most players will never get the chance to see. It resides outside of Winterhold itself, and instead of the usual guards, it will have Frost Atronachs guarding its entrance.

Escaping from this prison is no easy feat, and any player that manages to do so should be proud of themselves because the Frost Atronachs are no joke. For fans that would like to visit this unique location, they should get themselves in trouble and get sent off to jail in the town of Winterhold.
