It never fails. You make an incredible bow shot from the top of a mountain against a passing dragon, felling the great beast in a single blow. But rather than dropping to the ground lifeless, the dragon carefully selects a spot to land before engaging in a gratuitous death throw like it’s going for an Oscar-worthy performance.

If an unrealistically dramatic death pulls you out of Skyrim’s immersive experience, then we’ve got the mod for you. The “Dragons Fall Down - Immersive Airborne Death” mod makes dragons die midair and fall to the ground lifeless, completely bypassing the normal land-and-then-die animation.

"A simple mod that makes it so that dragons that die while airborne immediately ragdoll and plummet to their deaths instead of first landing," reads the mod's description courtesy of SeaSparrow. They give full credit to using code from Apollodown's Dragon Combat Overhaul mod, which in addition to causing dragons to die midair, also gives dragon combat additional depth by adding knockback attacks and locational damage to brittle dragon bones.

Like many Skyrim mods, you'll first need to download the Skyrim Script Extender (SKSE64) and then install Address Library For SKSE Plugins and SPID - Spell Perk Item Distributor. Both of these can be done through NexusMods' mod manager. Finally, download the Dragons Fall Down - Immersive Airborne Death via the mod manager and click enable to have dragons start falling from the sky.

Although more realistic and certainly satisfying when you land those long-range shots, having dragons ragdoll in midair means that they'll maintain whatever forward momentum they had upon death. This could cause your fresh kill to plummet to the ground quite a distance away from where you landed the kill shot, so be prepared to go on a hike if you want to gather up those dragon bones.
