Let’s be clear here: this new mod randomizes your Skyrim species, not race. Simply going from Khajit to Breton to Argonian wouldn’t be nearly wild enough. In the Skyrim Species Randomizer mod (which comes to us courtesy of GameRant), you’ll go from Draugr to Dragon, from Skeever to Slaughterfish, from Mudcrab to Dwarven Centurion, and literally everything in between. And best of all, you’ll swap species at the most inopportune times.

To get a sense of what this madness looks like, we turn to YouTuber Joov, who gave us a 10-minute look at what this mod has to offer. And what it offers is truly unfortunate shapeshifts into a bunny rabbit while mid-combat with an Elder Dragon.

When transforming into a random species, the player takes on all the abilities of whatever species they turn into. So becoming a rabbit means you lose any and all attacks, magic, and even your ability to jump. All you can do is run and nibble on grass.

On the other hand, turning into a Draugr provides the player with whatever weapons the Draugr spawns with--usually a bow and an ax or sword. If you’re lucky, you might spawn as a Draugr Wight Lord and get a few dragon shouts to go along with your ancient weaponry.

But more often than not, you'll wind up as a mostly helpless creature. Skeevers can't even go upstairs, much to Joov's dismay, although Skyrim's NPCs don't seem to mind when you show up in town as a giant spider.

Skyrim Species Randomizer is built on the Playable Monster Mod but tweaked by modder DDM Link to add a randomizer element. The randomizer causes a shapeshift every 2.5 minutes of in-game time, so fast traveling anywhere will cause an automatic shift into a different species. And yes, that can include fish species, which can make traversing the wilds of Skyrim awfully difficult.

The mod isn’t publicly available yet, but it should be arriving soon. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is available now on pretty much every platform that can run it.
