Even though Skyrim is nearly a decade old, there is still a very dedicated fan base who are very attached to the world of The Elder Scrolls and continue to play out the Last Dragonborn's story again and again. That being said, Skyrim has hit a few speed bumps since its release that has resulted in many players having unpopular opinions on the game as a whole.

As an easy way for people to discuss their favorite topics, from video games to films, Reddit is home to many of these unpopular opinions and allows people to get issues off their chest and find out if any other players share their sometimes unpopular views on Skyrim.

10 Nazeem Isn't The Worst Character In Whiterun

via: reddit.com (u/Flameo922)

After fleeing Helgen and rendezvousing with either Ralof or Hadvar in Riverwood, the next city players are expected to explore is Whiterun. While Whiterun is home to many irritating characters, none are as irritating as Nazeem, who constantly puts the player down for not being in his political league. RollAd20, however, thinks that Nazeem isn't as annoying as nearly every other player and thinks that Gisli, also known as Erikur's sister, is far worse. While Nazeem puts the player down due to their apparent low status, Gisli does nothing but complain about her sister, which is a fair reason to find her annoying, though it's hard to argue that she is more annoying than Nazeem.

9 The Quests Are Badly Written

Thieves guild skyrim

For the most part, the main quests in Skyrim are fairly enjoyable, though some of the radiant quests seem a little tacked on compared to those with an actual story behind them. Rosario_Di_Spadia, on the other hand, thinks that the majority of the quests are badly written, in particular, the Thieves Guild quests in Riften. It's hard to agree with this statement considering the likes of A Night To Remember being are so good, though it's also easy to see where they are coming from, as the Thieves Guild questline is particularly boring with the exception of the Nightingales aspect.

8 Heimskr Isn't Annoying

Heimskr preaching in Whiterun

Whiterun seems to be the hub of annoying NPCs in Skyrim, as it is home not only to Nazeem and Gisli, but also Heimskr, the loud Nord who preaches about Talos 24/7. Although he is a nice guy when spoken to directly, the fact that his few lines of dialogue are on constant repeat can make his appearance very annoying every time you have to go to Dragon's Keep.

However, user Skeletal-crow doesn't find him nearly as annoying and several others agree that he is just trying to keep his god alive in the eyes of the Nords, in spite of the White-Gold Concordat prohibiting this.

7 Markarth's Storyline Is Bad

The underlying political storyline in Markarth seems to be fairly divisive since there are people who praise it just as equally as some feel it is underwhelming. NKSCF, however, feels that the Markarth not only has bad quests, it's also a bad city compared to every other. It's hard to argue that Markarth isn't an interesting city at the very least, as it is built on top of an old Dwemer ruin, but thinking of not only the Markarth Conspiracy quests being bad but also the Daedric Prince quests is definitely an unpopular opinion.

6 Delphine And The Blades Aren't Horrible People

Via: playbuzz.com

For the majority of the main story, it seems like Delphine and The Blades are simply trying to stop Alduin from destroying the world alongside his army of dragons. However, after the Grey Beard's master is revealed to be none other than Alduin's former right-hand man, Paarthunax, they change their tone and give the player an ultimatum: kill Paarthunax or never return to The Blade's hideout. FrayedApron, unlike many players, feels that, in spite of this, Delphine and The Blades aren't bad people and are simply doing what they think is best. While it's hard to ignore Paarthunax's past actions under Alduin, it's also hard to ignore that he had spent the last few centuries trying to make up for these mistakes.

5 Serana Isn't As Good As Lydia

Skyrim Serana Vampire From Dawnguard

Although most of the companions in Skyrim are fairly forgettable and disposable, Serana seems to be a favorite among players not only for her abilities in combat but also her much better back story compared to most others. MightyDebo disagrees, however, and feels that Lydia, the first companion given to the player during the story, is a much better character than Serana and is far less annoying. Considering both women tend to complain about either the sunlight or their duty to carry the player's burdens, it's easy to see why some people might find either one annoying.

4 Apocrypha Wasn't A Good Location

via: Apocrypha

The Dragonborn DLC brought a fair few additions to the game, such as several unique gear items and spells, but the biggest addition was the inclusion of the island of Solstheim, a halfway point between Skyrim and mainland Morrowind, and Apocrypha, the realm of Hermaeus Mora.

While it is generally thought by the players that both locations are fairly well designed and bring some much-needed diversity to Skyrim, Afterthefire1 thinks otherwise and believes that Apocrypha was one of the worst locations in the game. While it is definitely let down by its linearity, it's hard to argue that it isn't unique and interesting to look at.

3 Transformation Powers Are Bad

Skyrim Werewolf

While not always appearing in The Elder Scrolls series, it's hard to imagine Skyrim without both the Werewolf and Vampire Lord forms to spice up combat from time to time. Reddit user PigeonsOnYourBalcony, on the other hand, feels that the transformations are essentially useless, as the Werewolf form is only useful for disease immunity while being a Vampire hinders the player too much during the day. While these are both justified perspectives on the forms in general, it is also hard to ignore how fun it is to play as the monster in a game where you're supposed be the hero.

2 The Stormcloaks Are In The Right

One of the main side quests, and one of the few that is actually tied to the main story, is the Civil War between the Stormcloak Rebellion and the Imperial Legion. While both sides are presented in a way that either one of them could be more in the right over the other, bmeridian feels that the Stormcloaks are the ones that players should side with. Although the Stormcloaks are definitely problematic, considering their view on outsiders and unwillingness to see the big picture, it's hard to argue against their view that freedom is more important than peace, especially when it means living under the rule of the Aldmeri Dominion.

1 Skyrim Isn't An RPG

Although this opinion isn't limited to Skryim, it is one that has come up more and more often as the way RPGs are designed has changed over the years. Particularly in the case of western RPGs, the genre seems to be taking more cues from action games than allowing the player to truly create a unique character and play that role, something that user Jazz_Kiwi feels about Skyrim. Instead, they feel that Skyrim is an action game with RPG elements rather than a pure RPG, something that could be said about many recent action RPGs like God of War and Horizon: Zero Dawn.
