Remember how, back in the day, we used to scare ourselves senseless by playing Slender: The Eight Pages? Well now you can take that unbridled fear with you on the go, as its sequel Slender: The Arrival launches on mobile today.

All of the game's chapters are live on the App Store and Google Play. The first chapter is available as a free download, meaning, according to the developer, players can see if they are "brave enough to continue the harrowing journey."

Looking at the official launch trailer, the mobile release still captures the foreboding of being alone in the dark, knowing that Slender could be right around the corner - or worse - behind you the whole time.

In a statement, the developer speaks about how it has doubled down on the fear for this new release:

"The frightening Slender Man is described by eyewitnesses as a thin, unnaturally tall man dressed in a black suit with a blank, featureless face. Players are enveloped in a dark, foreboding world of sensory deprivation with a story fraught with terror, filled with haunting visions and audio cues that create ahealthy dose of tension and paranoia."

As well as making the horror game portable, the mobile release of Slender: The Arrival also introduced a leaderboard to compete against friends, as well as daily, weekly and lifetime challenges. Slender: The Arrival is the commercial release of the breakout hit free-to-play game, Slender: The Eight Pages. It quickly went viral back when it launched in 2012. Which is almost ten years ago, in case you didn't feel old enough already. Popularized by the internet's then obsession with creepypasta, as well as YouTubers' reactions to the jump scares, Slender-Man was quickly cemented as a 2010s pop culture icon. As well as the commercially released sequel, Slender Man also got the obligatory Holywood treatment - to far, far worse results.
