It wouldn't be a stretch to say that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was the crown jewel of this year's E3. The game is bringing back every single playable fighter in the series. Snake, Wolf, Pichu - everyone is returning. On top of that, Ridley, a long sought-after character, will be making his playable debut. Daisy was announced as an echo fighter, and of course we had already known that Inkling was going to be in it. Fans have been wondering what other new characters will appear. Unlike recent Smash Bros. installments, it looks like whichever new characters may appear will be not be known until closer to Ultimate's release date.

In an interview with Nintendo of America's Bill Trinen and Nate Bihldorff, Nintendo Life discussed all things Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The site asked about the roster, and whether or not more characters will be announced between now and December. Bill Trinen had a simple response.

Trinen: "We can answer that when we get closer to December."

Nintendo Life also inquired about DLC in Ultimate.

Trinen: "The thing about us, when it comes to something like DLC, we don't really start on it until we have got the game done. So, maybe when the game comes out they will make a decision on if they will do it, or if they do what they want to do, that sort of thing."

Regarding more new character reveals, it is interesting that Nintendo is opting to showcase any new characters later in the year. For Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Nintendo continually unveiled new characters at the Smash Bros. DOJO!! site. For Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, Nintendo continually announced new fighters via Directs. However, it is also not surprising that the new characters are not the big focus of Ultimate. Ultimate's primary selling point is that it is bringing everyone back, so that's over 60 fighters. Sakurai stated at E3 that he's "kind of hoping you aren't expecting too many new challengers." Given the game's incredibly large roster, it makes sense not to expect a multitude of new fighters.

It's also possible that this is the finalized launch roster. Trinen didn't confirm that new fighters would actually be announced. Time will tell. If DLC is once again utilized, it would be a great way to slowly add new characters throughout the game's lifespan.
