The end of the world might be coming to PC players, as evidence of a Steam port of Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne HD Remaster has been discovered online.

Nocturne HD is an upcoming remaster of a JRPG from the PS2 era. It starts with the end of the world, as the planet is turned inside out and creatures from mythology return as the dominant species. The main character is a teenage boy who is given the power of a devil, so that he may determine the fate of the new world. Nocturne HD is coming to Nintendo Switch and PS4, with new content being added via DLC.

Nocturne HD is already available in Japan, and fans have been digging through its code. References to a Steam version of the game have been discovered by GarnetSunset on Twitter, suggesting that the game is coming to PC in the future.

It's not surprising to learn that Nocturne HD could be on its way to PC. Atlus and Sega have discussed the possibility of more Persona/Shin Megami Tensei ports coming to PC in the past. Catherine and Persona 4 Golden have also made their way to Steam, so it makes sense that Atlus would pursue a PC port of Nocturne HD, especially as its pre-orders performed so well on Amazon in Japan.

Fans of Atlus have often bemoaned the lack of modern ports for its older games. Persona 5 helped propel the Shin Megami Tensei series to mainstream attention, and it seemed as if Atlus wasn't interested in capitalizing on the popularity with ports. However, it now appears that the classic Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series might finally be taken away from older consoles and made available to the public at large. Nocturne HD promises to be one of the most brutally difficult games of 2021, and PC fans should get to experience that pain, alongside console players.
