Indie game studio Giant Scam Industries recently showcased their upcoming virtual-reality arena paintball tournament shooter Snapshot VR in an edutainment-style public service announcement video. Titled “Know Your Bunker”, the PSA advises potential players on some of the particulars of tournament paintball terminology in a comical yet instructive way.

The four-minute long “Know Your Bunker” video was made to help indoctrinate Snapshot VR players who may have never played tournament paintball before. Since communication is a crucial part of the game, the video helps players understand the meaning behind such terms as “Flank the Dorito” and “Behind the Snake”. The differences between a “cake” and a “can”, and between a “Mayan” and “Aztec” are also explained in an amusing way.

In an accompanying press release announcing the video, Giant Scam also reported that Snapshot VR will launch in Early Access for Viveport Infinity and Steam this coming August. Additional content and features will be added and polished throughout the game’s Early Access run. Snapshot VR is also expected to support the Oculus Rift, Oculus Rift S, HTC Vive, HTC Vive Pro, Vive Cosmos, and Vive Cosmos Elite, Windows Mixed Reality, and Valve index – with support for additional VR devices at full launch.

“We are super excited for players to play Snapshot VR and experience what we’ve been working so hard on,” said Jesse Keogh, Founder and Lead Engineer at Giant Scam. “We wanted to make a game that truly feels like playing paintball — fast-paced rounds, one-shot kills, rapid-fire projectiles, no respawns — but isn’t subject to some of the limitations of the real-life sport.”

Snapshot VR is an authentic game of real-life tournament paintball set in virtual reality. The incredibly fast-paced action, tactical decisions, and intense team strategy of real-life tournament paintball are all embodied in Snapshot VR’s futuristic virtual arena. This true-to-life gaming experience is just what you’d expect in a game whose title is derived from the paintball term “Snap Shooting”, the principal paintball skill of players shooting quickly and accurately from behind cover.

Inspired by professional paintball tournaments (Keogh himself has a decade of experience in competitive paintball as both a player and coach), Snapshot VR shares many of the same features of its meatspace counterpart. Vital team planning and communication all within very short and fierce timed matches, one-shot one-kill eliminations with no respawns (and no armor!), and three different movement options to move around VR space as freely as possible are just some of the built-in attributes.

Snapshot VR includes a broad set of stat-tracking tools and heat maps that players can analyze after matches to help improve their gameplay. The game also sports a collection of avatar customizations and cosmetic options to help players look and feel as they want to in-game.
