Video game characters sure do love to wear all-black outfits that conceal their identities and bring them through stealth missions with ease, and we love to see these outfits. If the character you're controlling looks cool, it only makes sense that you'll also feel cool, moving this badass bunch of pixels around and sneaking around your enemies.

Would Agent 47 be the same without his iconic black suit and red tie? Or Snake without the various outfits that help him hide against the enemy? Neither of them would be as iconic as they are without these core parts of their personality and the sneaky side that comes with it. After all, stealth suits have been a gaming staple for almost as long as video games have been around.

10 Sneaking Suit - Metal Gear Solid

Metal Gear Solid Sneaking Suit. Snake outfit screen.

The Sneaking Suit is an outfit specifically tailored for infiltration purposes with the added boost of dampening footsteps and providing extra damage resistance to the wearer. It’s an invaluable tool for Snake to sneak around without his enemies ever sensing him coming, and one that fans of the series have come to love.

While Snake’s combatant style has always been about stealthing towards the enemy rather than taking everyone head-on, there’s really nothing better than wearing something that correlates with this.

9 Path Of Silence - Mark of The Ninja

Mark Of The Ninja is a side-scrolling platformer often harbored as one of the best stealth games of all time. One of the unlockable outfits is the Path Of Silence costume which gives you ultimate covertness, like how your footsteps are now muffled, and you no longer activate motion sensors. The Marked Ninja can't carry a sword with the costume equipped, though can instead equip two distraction items.

Path Of The Silence is a black and gray fit covering the wearer from head to toe, predominantly focused on sneaky stealthy goodness.

8 Shadow - Watch Dogs

The Shadow outfit, much like other clothes in Watch Dogs, is anything but inconspicuous; if you were to see someone wearing a long trench coat styled suit with a cap that conceals your face, you'd be suspicious as to their intentions. However, this is what makes the whole idea hilarious since Aiden believes it to be perfect for undercover operations.

The same can be said for all purchasable clothes in Watch Dogs, as the only real difference the clothes have is the color schemes and mask designs. So even if we think Aiden's clothes make him seem suspicious, the characters of the Watch Dogs world sure don't think the same.

7 Adam Jensen's Outfits - Deus Ex Franchise

Deus Ex outfits split image. Trench coat and classic armor.

Adam Jensen is always wearing those dark, stylish outfits of his, like the classic trench coat or mechanized body armor. Everything Jensen wears looks exceptionally classy and lets him blend into the shadows and go all clandestine on his assignments.

There is something to be said about how the trousers he wears look like they make the most obnoxious sound ever whenever he moves since they seem to be the type of material that makes it hard to be sneaky, but we'll chalk that up to video game magic.

6 Shadow Set - Aragami 2

Aragami 2, split image wearing the shadow armor.

Aragami 2's entire premise is centered around moving through the shadows and controlling them to the fullest. Every armor set in Aragami pertains to this, with the Shadow Set being the best example. The Shadow Set is the armor you begin the game with and the classic look from the first game. Kurai's identity never feels more concealed than when he's sporting this look which features a black design with splashes of dark red across the outfit.

The colors allow for blending into darkness, combined with the sly nature of the wearer, meaning no one will ever predict Kurai's arrival.

5 Corvo And Emily's Outfits - Dishonored 2

No matter who you decide to play in Dishonored 2, you'll know you made the correct choice as both characters have a remarkable style sense. Corvo has his long black suit with sleeves that reach all the way to his fingers. Emily dons a similar look, though, with purple underlining on the coat of her outfit. Both wear clothes that make sneaking around a breeze but not without losing style points in the process.

These two thrive in the shadows and are constantly making easy work of sneaking behind guards and effectively taking them out.

4 Agent 47's Signature Suit - Hitman

Hitman Agent 47's iconic outfit.

Everyone is familiar with Agent 47's classic look - though not the NPCs, who let him walk around freely without suspecting a thing. Maybe the black suit and red tie isn't the most alarming attire for someone to wear at a prestigious party, but the undeniable staple of 47's suit, tie, and clean-shaven head is something few people in the world of Hitman have.

Agent 47 can get away with sneaking around places with the suit but also switching his looks by taking on other people's outfits. For example, he may need to get into the kitchen at a party to progress and will take out one of the chefs and change into their clothes to disguise himself as them.

3 Garrett's Outfit - Thief

Any good thief needs to be prepared for the road ahead - after all, their thieving side hustle is meant to be going unnoticed. They need an outfit that allows them to slink into the shadows and use the darkness to their advantage.

Garrett of the Thief series knows this better than most, with his all-black costume concealing his acts allowing him to sneak around even the most guarded of areas. You can even see how this works out for him in cutscenes where the outfit worn blends into darker areas of the game.

2 3E Shadow Armor - Splinter Cell: Conviction

Splinter Cell, split image. Stealth outfit.

Splinter Cell proves that every good video game story is better when linked to revenge. In Sam Fisher's case, vengeance for his daughter. To enact this revenge, Sam must put his skills to work and come out of hiding to uncover the truth of his daughter's death and its connections to the agency of which he was a member.

Anyone entering this kind of mission knows they need to be as undercover as possible, which is where the 3E Shadow Armor comes into play. The Shadow Armor is a fully covered black and gray bodysuit with blacked-out goggles. A unique style for an undercover stealth suit since not many go for the fully covered body approach.

1 Altaïr's Master Assassin Robes - Assassin's Creed

Assassin's Creed, split image. Altair Master Assassin robes.

As our first introduction to the Assassin's Creed world, Altaïr had high expectations to live up to, and while Ezio would soon come and take the face of Assassin's Creed, there is one thing from the first game that is still recognizable today. Altaïr's Master Assassin Robes is an outfit that allows him to use the game mechanic of blending into crowds since NPCs wear similarly styled clothing.

Blending is such a significant part of the early games and is what makes the design of the robes so important. While you might not think the robes would blend well into obscurity at first glance, they certainly do in the Assassin's Creed universe.
