Sniper: Ghost Warrior Contracts developer City Interactive has announced that the game will hit stores on November 22.
Despite the first game in the series, Sniper: Art of Victory, receiving a rather frosty reception from critics and consumers alike, City Interactive decided to continue with the franchise. What followed was a lackluster Sniper: Ghost Warrior and Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2, both of which received mixed to unfavorable reviews from critics.
Four years later the company decided to release Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 and many critics were pleasantly surprised by sweeping changes that City Interactive had made to the game, which provided players with a truly "open world" environment. While the landscapes received high praise, the character interactions were mediocre at best. While the game did a good job of giving the illusion of real-life scenarios, the reactions of civilians were far from believable. Now, with Sniper: Ghost Warrior Contracts' release date, it appears the company is ready to take the next step.
It's hard to imagine why City Interactive would stick with the Sniper series given its problems attracting new consumers. However, it’s clear that it takes consumer feedback seriously. It wouldn't be the first company to struggle with creating great games and, if this next installment becomes a commercial success, it might give City Interactive the boost it needs to take the Sniper series to another level.
The game's official release date was announced in a gameplay trailer on City Interactive's official YouTube channel. In it, we can see a dynamic landscape and improved enemy mechanics. We also get a firsthand look at how cameras and drones will be used throughout the game in order to help players complete their objectives. While the trailer does a good job of showing how you can use objects and the environment to your advantage, it fails to mention if cooperative play, something the company promised to include in the past, will be a part of the game.
CI Games does a great job of showcasing the improvements that it made since the release of Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3. The fact that the trailer makes a point of spotlighting the interactions that players can have with other characters in the game shows that CI is still trying new things.
While the company didn't address key features like cooperative play, it's probably a safe bet to assume that we will find out more when the release date for the game draws closer.
Sniper: Ghost Warrior Contracts will be available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 22, 2019.
