The Game Awards are now only a day away and there's going to be an awful lot crammed into the two-hour event if Geoff Keighley's promises are anything to go by. Not just the awards themselves, of which there are 30, but also a whole heap of very special reveals. Apparently one of them has been two and a half years in the making which has got those tuning in hoping for something pertaining to Breath of the Wild 2, or perhaps even GTA 6.

Sonic is also guaranteed to be featured heavily, asking Keighley for some invites on Twitter as rumors swirl that Sonic Frontiers will be officially revealed on Thursday night. On top of that, Sonic the Hedgehog 2's first trailer will debut at The Game Awards. The news was confirmed on Twitter alongside the very first poster for the sequel.

The poster is inspired by the video game of the same name and shows Sonic and Tails running from Robotnik on a plane. Sonic and Tails can be found flying a very similar plane in Sonic 2's Sky Chase Zone on the Sega Mega Drive. The poster also shows Jim Carrey's Robotnik in a far more traditional mode of transport than he used in the first movie.

Notable by his absence from the poster is Knuckles. Earlier this year, Idris Elba confirmed he would be voicing the world's most famous Echidna in the sequel, sharing nothing more than a shot of the character's clenched fist to accompany the news. The only other look at Knuckles' big-screen appearance has come via set photos of the model being used to take the place of the echidna on set.

How exactly Knuckles will look in the movie remains shrouded in mystery, but that will almost definitely change once the trailer debuts at The Game Awards tomorrow night. Hopefully Paramount and Sega learned their lesson following the disastrous reveal of what Sonic was originally going to look like in the first movie. They nailed Tails' design first try, and have also hired the games' voice actor for the role. Fingers crossed Knuckles looks just as good.
