Sega has officially announced the Sonic Central broadcast for this Thursday, providing a first look at new projects and partnerships currently in development.

Sonic Central — no, not the popular YouTube channel of the same name — will provide fans of the Blue Blur with some massive announcements and events to commemorate Sonic's 30th anniversary.

To accompany the announcement of the Sonic Central broadcast, Sega dropped a teaser video to give a sneak preview of what the broadcast will entail. It featured IDW Sonic the Hedgehog comic artist Evan Stanley as she grew from a little girl trying to craft the perfect Sonic drawing to the illustrator whose artwork graces the comic books we read today.

Sonic Central is scheduled to stream on YouTube and Twitch at 12 p.m. EST/9 a.m. PST.

Sonic's 30th anniversary is less than a month away, and fans have been getting antsy over whether Sega will announce a new Sonic game to commemorate the milestone anniversary. All the announcements we've seen are the production of the Sonic movie sequel, a Netflix animated series coming out in 2022, and some new Sonic merch — no game announcements whatsoever.

The last Sonic games Sega released within the last four years were Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces, as well as a pair of sports-themed spin-off games, including Team Sonic Racing and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

Last year, Sega announced that it would be hosting a Sonic the Hedgehog panel at SXSW to announce whatever new Sonic game Sonic Team was confirmed to be working on, but after the COVID-19 pandemic came and forced organizers to cancel the event that March, the panel got canceled along with it. Sega tried to reschedule the SXSW Sonic panel to April 2020 and make it a virtual panel, but that never came to fruition either. Since then, any Sonic game news it wanted to announce has been kept under wraps.

Today, however, Sonic fans can take a big sigh of relief and see that not even the pandemic can slow down the world's fastest hedgehog. Last week, Sega's Vice President Shuji Utsumi teased in an interview with Famitsu that a new Sonic game will be announced soon, so the Sonic Central broadcast will be a perfect opportunity to see what that new Sonic game is. Whatever it may be, it'll be worth the wait.
