Step aside, Mario. Sonic is about to be immortalized in Lego via the new Sonic Mania Green Hill Zone Set.

There are a number of things that have to happen to a franchise for the minds behind it to know they have truly made it. One of those things is for elements of its franchise to be immortalized in Lego. It has happened to Star Wars, Mario, Batman, and now the world's most famous blue hedgehog can also rest assured that he is truly iconic.

Lego has announced the Sonic Mania Green Hill Zone set, and you can see it in all of its glory below. What makes Sonic's foray into the wide world of Lego even more special is the set was designed by Sonic superfan, Viv Grannell. Grannell submitted her design to the Lego Ideas platform which encourages fans to come up with new and inspired ideas.

As you can see from the completed set above, and also its name, Grannell's design was inspired by 2017's Sonic Mania. More specifically, its Green Hill Zone, an area that has been a staple of many Sonic games since the early '90s. The design received the 10,000 fan votes it needed to get the green light, which meant Lego moved ahead with its production, and here we are.

The set features a Lego Sonic, complete with Chaos Emerald, as well as an intimidating Dr. Robotnik, and even a video monitor item box with an extra life inside. Lego hasn't confirmed when exactly the Sonic Mania Green Hill set will go on sale, but it has arrived at the perfect time. The blue blur will celebrate his 30th anniversary this soon, so it would make sense for the set to be released on or around that time.

This is one of the first major announcements when it comes to how exactly Sonic's anniversary will be celebrated. It was also revealed this week that a new Sonic show, Sonic Prime, is coming to Netflix. Although that won't debut until 2022. There were a number of ways Sonic's last major milestone was marked - his 25th anniversary - including the announcement of Sonic Mania, and the release of a Sonic Lego Dimensions pack. This latest announcement very much takes Sonic's involvement with Lego to the next level.
