It's weird to see everyone talking about Sonic again. The blue blur seems to be the unofficial winner of The Game Awards, with two hype-inducing trailers getting the often mocked series back in the conversation, and for a good reason this time.

The first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 absolutely stole the show, but not for a reason the director expected. Audiences were stunned to see that Idris Elba had deceived the public, as it turns out his Knuckles voice actually was pretty sexy. This caused an avalanche of reactions, as Sonic fans and amateurs alike were left questioning a whole lot of things about themselves as they called a red echidna sexy online. However, director Jeff Fowler is insisting this wasn't intentional at all, and he didn't expect to see this reaction.

“Let me just say that the fact that [the sexy voice debate] resurfaced in the last 24 hours. Everyone saying that he lied makes me so happy. Big smile on my face", Fowler told Polygon. "I don’t think anyone saw that conversation or dialogue happening, but here it is, and I’m glad it’s here. [Elba's] such a great guy. He really wants to get the character right”.

Well, he's certainly doing something right. As we reported yesterday, the overwhelming consensus is that the film looks good, and Knuckles looks - and sounds - even better. He's completely stolen the show from Tails, who's also making his debut in this film. Sorry, little guy.

What is pretty cool, however, is that the film has actually brought on the two-tailed fox's voice actor from the games to play him. As iconic characters are frequently recast for the big screen (insert Chris Pratt joke here), it's refreshing to see a video game voice actor brought onto a big project like this.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is set to hit theatres April 8, 2022. It's a sequel to the first film, which premiered in early 2020.
