Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be called Sonic the Hedgehog vs Knuckles in Japan and has a completely different logo featuring all three of the main characters.

Last night gave us our first look at Sonic the Hedgehog 2, revealing Sonic and Tails' relationship, Eggman's new look, and the first appearance of Knuckles. Although Knuckles is only in the trailer for a few scenes, it looks like he'll have a lot more importance than we initially thought, as he's actually part of the title and logo in Japan.

As revealed by Japanese versions of the trailer, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be referred to as Sonic the Hedgehog vs Knuckles in Japan. Not only that, but the logo has been changed to feature Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. Sonic's face can be seen in the word Sonic, Tails is seen in the "vs" part of the title, and Knuckle's fist can be seen in his name.

In the US and UK, the film is simply titled Sonic the Hedgehog 2, with Tail's tails popping out of the number. Although it's fairly common for film titles to be different across the world, the prominent use of Knuckles in the logo implies that his rivalry with Sonic will play a much bigger part in the full film than the trailer reveals.

This can also be seen in a poster drawn by Tyson Hesse and shared on Twitter, which features Sonic and Tails being watched by a menacing Knuckles in the background. Knuckles is, of course, a key character in the Sonic universe, so it's probably no surprise to see him taking up a big role, but it's rare that we see this side of their relationship explored.

Knuckles first debuted in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and briefly acted as a rival to Sonic, which it looks like the film is going to take to the extremes and really push as a part of the story. We all know they'll be friends by the end, at least.
