There have been numerous leaks for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie that show how the famous video game hero is going to be interpreted in live-action film and how he is going to look next to his human co-stars. The visuals of Sonic the Hedgehog have been compared unfavorably to Detective Pikachu, with the Blue Blur plummeting into the creepy end of the uncanny valley

The model used for Sonic in the upcoming movie looks weird, but the film itself will likely eschew the creepiness that has surrounded the franchise since 2006 when Sonic kissed a human princess. Sonic the Hedgehog will likely be a fun family romp with what looks like a blue version of Poochie from The Simpsons in the lead role.

Even if the new Sonic the Hedgehog movie looks a bit weird, it likely won't be as creepy as the first Sonic movie, which was released in '96.

Sonic the Hedgehog was originally released in Japan as a two-part series, which was subtitled and released as a pack in the West. The two parts of the OVA were later combined into a single film and released as Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie in the rest of the world in '99.

The issues with Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie can mostly be traced to a character named Sara, who was the daughter of the President. Sara was a teenage human girl (with a cat's tail). A lot of the scenes involving her focused on her chest and backside. Sara also had a thing for Sonic, which meant that she predated the human princess from the 2006 game by a decade.

There are several incredibly creepy scenes involving Sara, such as when Tails accidentally grabs her chest and is chastised by Knuckles for being a creep. In another, Sonic accidentally looks up her skirt when his mind is connected to Metal Sonic (and blushes), while yet another scene sees Dr. Robotnik wanting to marry Sara and picturing a future where she is pregnant with his child (after giving birth to lots of others).

So far, it seems like the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie will not involve a teenage cat girl lusting after Sonic and being assaulted by Tails... or, at least, we hope not. However, this is Sonic after all, so we'll have to wait and see.

Sonic the Hedgehog will be released on November 8, 2019.
