Sonic X Spins Onto Netflix Next Month

The classic, if flawed, anime Sonic X will be coming to Netflix on December 1st, just in time to hype (?) us up for the movie.

Sonic X is racing onto Netflix in December. The Sonic franchise has seen its fair share of ups and downs, but could be about to hit a new surge in popularity. In three months, Paramount will release the first Hollywood adaption, and Takashi Iizuka confirmed at SXSW that the next game is in production.

When it comes to anime based on a platforming video game, the most well-known is probably Sonic X. Premiering in 2003, Sonic X was an adaption of the then-current Sonic era. The story had Sonic and pals warped to our Earth after a conflict with Dr. Eggman. Here, Sonic befriends a kid named Chris. Eggman threatens the world, so it's up to Sonic and friends to stop him.

Sonic X ran for three seasons. The first introduced the characters, both animal and human, and established the conflict against Dr. Eggman. Season 2 adapted the events of Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, and Sonic Battle. The show was localized into English. The English dub was infamous among fans for its many edits. Despite that, Sonic X remained massively popular while on the air, and was one of the biggest programs on 4Kids back in the day. Soon, the show will be hitting Netflix for those wishing to relive those days.

One can currently find the program under "Coming Soon" on the streaming service. According to Siliconera, Sonic X will hit December 1, but only the first two seasons will be available to stream. Based on that, the 26 episode Metarex saga won't be available. It's also not confirmed if the season will feature the 4Kids dub and subtitles, or just the dub.

Interestingly, Sonic X has been streaming on Hulu for some time now, and it features both the dub and subtitles. Also, Hulu has featured all three seasons. It would be unfortunate if Netflix just streams the first two seasons. Many fans agree the third season is superior to the first two. Fans will know for sure soon about season 3, but they shouldn't get their hopes up.

Sonic X will join Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog on Netflix. Love or hate the anime, Sonic X did introduce a lot of kids to the franchise, and gave us Mike Pollock as Dr. Eggman. Sonic X may not be a fantastic show, but it did leave an impact on a large number of fans.
