Sony has announced a new brand for its first-party titles with a reveal trailer for PlayStation Studios, which comes with its own Marvel-style video introduction that will appear on games in the future.

The PlayStation 4 dominated the current console generation with the aid of its incredible exclusives. The only place to play games like Bloodborne, God of War, Marvel's Spider-Man, Persona 5, and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End was on PlayStation 4, which brought fans in by the millions.

With the PlayStation 5 on the horizon, Sony has unveiled a new brand for its first-party games and for titles developed by other studios under Sony's supervision. The official PlayStation YouTube account has uploaded a seventeen-second clip for PlayStation Studios, which is a new brand that will launch alongside the PlayStation 5. The PlayStation Studios video shows clips from games like Horizon: Zero Dawn and The Last Of Us, as they're reflected in the square, circle, triangle, and X of the PlayStation controller button scheme. The fans have already compared the PlayStation Studios sting to the similar one used for the Marvel movies.

The intention of the PlayStation Studios brand is to unite all of the first-party exclusives under the same brand. According to GamesIndustry.bizSIE senior vice president/head of global marketing Eric Lempel has said that Sony wants to use the PlayStation Studios brand as a seal of quality that fans can recognize.

"We are really excited about this," says Eric Lempel, senior vice president and head of global marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment. "Over the last few years -- and even the last decade -- the strength of the titles coming out from our studios has been stronger than ever. We have been thinking about how we unite all of these great games under one brand, and really the purpose of that is to make the consumer understand that, when they see this brand, they're getting ready for a robust, innovative, deep experience that they've come to expect from games coming from PlayStation. So we came up with PlayStation Studios.

The intention is for the animated intro to be used in a number of different capacities, such as for advertising or for game trailers. The intro will be updated with new games over time and some versions will only include characters from specific franchises when promoting a new title. It was confirmed that the PlayStation Studios intro will not appear in Ghosts of Tsushima or The Last of Us Part II.

The last console war was determined by a mixture of first-party exclusives and third-party support. The Wii U had some incredible first-party exclusives starring Nintendo characters, but it struggled to find third-party support, while the Xbox One had amazing third-party support, but its exclusives weren't really exclusive because they were also on PC. The PlayStation 4 had the best of both worlds, which is why so many people purchased the system. Sony knows the strength of its brands, but an animated intro won't be enough, as the first run of games under the PlayStation Studios brand will need to be amazing if the name is going to hold any meaning.

The PlayStation 5 is due to be released during the 2020 holiday season.
