Sony has revealed that it has put a lot of work into making sure the PS5 doesn't sound like it's prepping for take-off whenever players load up a game.

We are now just a matter of months away from the release of two next-generation consoles. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Both companies are drip-feeding their potential customers information, hoping to hear from their rival first so they know what they're up against. That's why neither Sony nor Microsoft has revealed how much their respective consoles will cost.

Other information about both systems has been revealed, though. Their designs, some of the games that will be available at launch and into 2021, and what players can expect from the next generation of controllers. Now players are starting to ask more specific questions, such as what will the deal be with the PS5's fan.

That might sound like a random question to ask for some, but not to most people who own a PS4. A lot of PS4's sound like the back end of a jumbo jet when asked to do anything even slightly taxing. Playing Final Fantasy VII: Remake, for example. A big, good-looking game that makes most PS4s sound as if they are ready to take their final breath whenever the game is fired up.

Sony Europe's Simon Rutter has confirmed that "a great deal of effort" has gone into making sure the fan problems suffered by the PS4 don't continue on into the next generation. It has been known for a while that the PS5 will sport an innovative cooling system, presumably to try and cut down on the noise made by the fan. The design also looks like it will have a lot more vents than the PS4.

Fan noise might not seem like that big a deal on the surface. However, when two consoles with a lot of similarities go head-to-head, it could be something like this that sways potential customers one way or the other. The noise our PS4s make gives us anxiety a lot of the time. Honestly, one of the main reasons we can't wait for the PS5 is because some of our PS4s sound like they're going to cough, splutter, and give up any day now.
