The upcoming Spider-Man game for PlayStation 4 took a center focus yesterday at the San Diego Comic-Con. A new story trailer was released, featuring Norman Osborn and the first appearance of Silver Sable. On top of that, Sony announced that the game will be getting a PS4 Pro Bundle, complete with a Spider-Man themed console and controller. Below is the story trailer.
Regarding the Pro Bundle, back in May, the bundle was seemingly leaked on Reddit. However, the two are different thanks to the controller button color, so the Reddit one was likely just someone creating a picture of what a Pro Bundle could look like. It is close to the official one, but the real one features white-colored buttons and analog sticks. On the official PlayStation Blog, Sony detailed what the bundle brings, and its price. Pre-orders are open at Amazon (though it appears to be sold out there), Best Buy, and GameStop.
Sony: "This special bundle includes a fully customized Amazing Red 1TB PS4 Pro console featuring the iconic Marvel’s Spider-Man spider, a matching DualShock 4 wireless controller, Marvel’s Spider-Man game on Blu-ray disc, and digital content. This limited edition bundle will be available across the U.S. and Canada for $399.99 USD (MSRP) / $499.99 CAD (MSRP)."
Spider-Man is looking to be one of the event games of 2018. The previous story trailer took place at the prison facility, the Raft, where Spider-Man battles some of his classic foes. The new trailer seems to take place afterwards, because New York City is in danger. There are a few interesting things to take note of. Silver Sable looks to be an antagonist who is hired to take out Spider-Man. According to Marvel Games' Executive Creative Director Bill Rosemann in an interview with IGN, "With Silver Sable, the idea was we want to bring in someone who's hired to do what they do, but she's very specific in that she's not just an assassin-for-hire, she's a mercenary-for-hire." However, IGN notes that Rosemann teases Sable's thoughts about Spider-Man "will evolve" as the story goes on.
Norman Osborn is mayor of NYC in this continuity. The video's description states that he's running for re-election, and he hires Silver Sable "to restore order to the city." Naturally, for Osborn, that includes stopping Spider-Man. The trailer also features Mary Jane and Miles Morales. Both should play key supporting roles in the story based on the trailer. One thing that is easy to miss the first time around is that the trailer confirms Spider-Man's classic costume. The suit is seen briefly when he swings around and attacks Wilson Fisk.
Spider-Man for PS4 will be released on September 7th.
