PlayStation might be gearing up to announce a range of new hardware later this month, one of which is reportedly a "genuine professional controller" for the PS5.

According to a report from industry insider Tom Henderson for Try Hard Guides, this new "pro" controller will have several unique features, including flappy paddles/buttons on the back and "removable stick units" that can be easily replaced in case you experience stick drift. Henderson claims to have seen pictures of an alleged prototype of the controller, explaining that the controller also seems to have removable grips and trigger stops.

Interestingly, Henderson also claims that this controller is one of several pieces of hardware that Sony is planning to reveal at the end of this month, although he stresses that he doesn't know if the controller will be announced at the same time. Henderson also speculates that this hardware could be revealed during the same alleged event that God of War Ragnarok's November release date will be revealed at, although he maintains this is unclear.

As for what other pieces of hardware could be announced, Henderson claims that a new console won't be one of them, so there's no need to fear a PlayStation 5 Pro announcement any time soon. Sony has yet to reveal the release date for its PSVR 2 system, despite recently showing off a bunch of launch day games at the most recent State of Play, so it could be that.

Whatever the case, if Henderson's information is accurate then we won't have to wait too long to find out. However, as is the case with all tips from insiders, none of this has been confirmed, so grab a hefty pinch of salt and try not to get too excited as we approach the end of the month.
