Sony has renewed the trademark for The Order 1886, sparking hopes from fans that something new is on the way.

Ready at Dawn's The Order 1886 didn't see much critical success when it first launched for the PS4 back in 2015, but it slowly gained a bit of a grounding as one of PlayStation's cult classics. Fans have been hoping for a sequel ever since the first game's cliffhanger ending, but it looked unlikely after Ready at Dawn became a part of Oculus Studios in 2020.

Although Ready at Dawn no longer has a part in The Order, the trademark still belongs to PlayStation, so it's possible that something could be done with another studio. That's what fans are hoping now that it's been spotted that Sony has renewed the trademark earlier this month.

TheOrderTrademark

As reported by PlayStation LifeStyle and first reported by Gematsu, Sony renewed the trademark for The Order 1886 on December 9, 2021. Considering the series has been dormant since the first game's release, this implies that Sony has some plans for the series, although it's not clear exactly what.

The trademark information for The Order 1886 says that it was due to expire on December 3, so it's possible that Sony is simply renewing it so that it doesn't disappear completely. It's fairly common for big publishers to keep renewing trademarks just in case it ever decides to do something with the property, rather than being an indication that it's working on something new.

Still, it's a better sign than the trademark being abandoned altogether.
