Produced by Keen Software House, Space Engineers is a remarkable sandbox game that allows player to build incredible things in space, asteroids, moons, and on various planets. In survival mode players are challenged to mine the materials they need to build while avoiding various threats while creative mode allows players to create some truly impressive things.

Whether you’re manually mining resources in survival or using a creator program to do something remarkable, here are some impressive blueprints to get the creative juices flowing and show you what this game can do.

10 Mega Ring Habitat

This is easily the largest build on the list coming in at a whopping 3.5 km in diameter. The creator says it was inspired by the Ringworlds from Stellaris and not Halo. Although it’s easy to see where some might be confused by that. It took approximately 40 hours and requires at least 12 GB of ram to render.

The biomes were cleverly created with various non organic materials and the whole thing has functioning gravity. You certainly don’t have to make anything this big, but it shows that some elbow grease and creativity can make for impressive projects.

9 Mobile Mining Base

Just because you’re building a station doesn’t mean it has to be stationary, and it certainly doesn’t have to be a spaceship either. The Mobile Mining Base may not be the prettiest entry on the list, but it’s easily one of the more functional.

According to the creator it is entirely operational allowing the player to process and store materials while driving around. It’s also survival capable with defenses, an alarm system and a hangar for your ships. Sometimes the best builds are ones that focus on functionality rather than aesthetics, though the industrial feel is nice.

8 Void Station

The Void Station definitely looks like something you’d find on the edge of space or in the darker parts of the universe. The creator says it was designed to serve as a Safe Zone Station or a hub for multiplayer servers.

It’s built primarily to function as a refueling station with multiple docking areas for a variety of ship sizes to land and contains lots of storage. It’s a great build that can make for interesting roleplay or to give life to the parts of space light doesn’t always reach.

7 Eve Online Service Station

The Eve Online Service Station is an example of how video game structures from other games can do well in Space Engineers. Resembling either a Gallente or Caldari structure, this station is entirely functional being able to dock a large number of small ships.

The creator says it can be retrofitted to refuel ships, potentially unload cargo, and the living quarters aren’t finished allowing for customization. The creator admits that while there are defenses, it’s open concept makes it very insecure. But for someone looking to roleplay Eve Online in their Space Engineers game, it’s not bad.

6 Cliff Factory

Built by someone who was very irritated by the wolves in survival, the Cliff Factory is a rugged station that clings to any cliffside. According to the creator it can be attached to any cliff on any planet, asteroid, or moon. All the windows can be opened which can make for some incredible views depending on where you put it.

The best thing about this build is that it doesn’t require any mods and was made entirely in vanilla. It’s medium sized which makes it perfect for a humble base and shows that Space Engineers isn’t always about space and that you can build remarkable things anywhere.

5 ShinCorp Tower

The Shincorp Tower is a simple build that shows you don’t have to make complicated structures to achieve a gorgeous final product. It’s a futuristic tower the creator says was somewhat inspired by the NEC Supertower in Tokyo, Japan.

It has 33 floors, 77 individual rooms, a medical area, maintenance ducts, lighting, artificial gravity, and a self-sustaining solar based power system. The creator mentions it could benefit from an armament system and furniture, but it’s a beautiful building nonetheless and would make any player feel like the executive of a successful futuristic corporation.

4 Home World 2’s Hiigaran Shipyard

Space Engineers Homeworld 2 Hiigaran's Shipyard

The Hiigaran Shipyard shows nostalgia has its place even among modern video games like Space Engineers. The creator says the build is huge and likely game-breaking. It was based off the shipyard of the same name from the classic 2003 video game Home World 2.

It’s survival ready and fully functional, but the creator warns you will suffer glitches and issues trying to use this ship. It also raises some interesting ideas of what other structures from other classic games could be built in this wonderful sandbox.

3 The Black Hand Orbital Command

It’s hard to identify what Black Hand organization The Black Hand Orbital Command build is referring to, but it’s likely a villainous or criminal organization of some kind. Designed in a red and black aesthetic this station functions as a station designed for commanding planetary invasion while in the midst of battle.

It’s self sufficient with it’s own drone assembling bay which feels very fitting. It shows that not all buildings have to be for good or productive purposes and builds like these can make for very interesting roleplays. Especially when you look at the ship blueprints the creator has made in conjunction with this station.

2 Eylon Station

The creator gives the Eylon Station a bit of a backstory saying it was built in 2358 to serve as a trading post and headquarters for economic activity in deep space. The story goes on to say that black market activity is occurring in the lower parts of the ship.

It’s not at all survival ready or even livable considering the oxygenators have to be manually refilled. It does however give a great example of what market-based buildings could look like in space and can see a lot of use in multiplayer servers that have a lot of market trading going on.

1 Draco City Ship

By far the most interesting build on the list is the Draco City Ship. The creator says this city sized build is meant to function as a Mobile Command Base with it’s own gravity drive, 20 ship hanger, refineries, med stations, jump drive and other essentials for a colony drifting through space.

It ticks off all the boxes of an incredible build for Space Engineers, it’s mobile, large, fully functional, survival ready, and looks right at home in the depths of space. There’s a lot of potential with builds like this both practically and for roleplaying purposes. Hopefully the Draco City Ship blueprint sparks some cool ideas for other city-sized designs.
