Speedrunners do the darndest things don’t they? Whether it’s beating Super Mario 64 in seven minutes, or completing Resident Evil Village in an hour and 30 minutes, these guys really make us feel like absolute noobs, even with the games we claim to be good at. In the latest incident of speedrunners performing the impossible, streamer Mitchriz beat Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice in four hours, 35 minutes and 13 seconds while being blindfolded. Now that you’ve picked your jaw up off the floor, we can tell you how they did it. As noted by Eurogamer, Mitchriz used the keyboard and mouse for this run. They would count steps to figure out where they are in a particular area, and even use sword slashes to detect walls and obstacles.
Sounds were the primary waypoints used by the streamer, not only to detect where enemies were, but to parry and block as well. Of course, cutscenes and dialogues helped them figure out where in the story they currently were. Even while blindfolded, Mitchriz dispatched many of the bosses in their first attempt, and some of the tougher ones in a few more tries. However, they did run into some trouble with the Guardian Ape.
They almost defeated the boss in the first attempt, but took an unlucky hit. The ape’s blood scream attack especially was a problem for Mitchriz, added to the fact that multiple attempts depleted their items. However, they were able to beat the boss on their sixth attempt.
They finally beat Isshin, the final boss of the Shura ending in their second attempt. "Four and a half hours, that's actually fast," said Mitchriz after completing the run. "I didn't think it would be a one try. I mean, it was hard, that did not go according to plan, but we did it."
Mitchriz clearly had to be a pro to even think of attempting this feat. As Eurogamer pointed out, at one point they were the world record holder for fastest Sekiro any percent category, and is the current holder of the fastest Shura ending with “no swimming”. They clearly know the entire game backwards.
