Splelunky 1 and 2 are officially coming to Nintendo Switch in the summer of 2021. During today's Indie World Showcase, Derek Yu took the stage to talk about his two games and announce their arrival on Nintendo's console, showing off plenty of Switch footage in the process.

The first Spelunky released in 2008, earning rave reviews from critics and players alike. Yu followed up that success with Spelunky 2 earlier this year, although it was only available on PC and PS4. Spelunky 2 took everything people loved about the original and cranked it up a notch – giving you more enemies, more obstacles, more levels, and more ways to customize your character. It's a fantastic action-platformer, but one that's known to be notoriously difficult.

Unfortunately, Nintendo didn't announce a specific release date or price for the upcoming games. We also didn't get a confirmation that the two games will be sold as a bundle, although, that seems like the most likely option. Expect to hear more in the coming months as we round the corner into 2021.

Despite launching several months ago, the devs continue to work on Spelunky 2 and release frequent updates. Earlier this week the team released online multiplayer for the game on Steam, letting you tackle the challenging platforming action with a few of your friends. Both local and online multiplayer will be available on Switch as well, although you'll likely need to have a Nintendo Online subscription to access it.

Plenty of other great games were announced during the latest Indie Showcase, including Fisti-Fluffs, Very Very Valet, Tunche, and Among Us. Nintendo has been having an incredible year, dominating sales charts in the months leading up to the launch of PS5 and Xbox Series X. It also released several high-profile games in the closing months of 2020, including Hyrule Warriors and Pikmin 3 – two titles that will probably be on most families' holiday shopping list. With several popular indie games hitting the console next year, 2021 is shaping up to be more of the same.

Spelunky 1 and Spelunky 2 are both heading to Nintendo Switch next summer.
