We just got a bunch of new trailers for upcoming games, and that can only mean one thing: everyone is a game developer now. This means we all have the knowledge we need to pick apart everything that was shown off, and unfortunately for Spider-Man 2, it seems that it's guilty of a grievous gaming sin - reusing elements of a previous game, rather than building every single feature from scratch. Which, according to experts online, is lazy game development. That's right - it's lazy to set a Spider-Man game in New York, apparently. This comes after the recent gameplay preview showed the player web-slinging through a location straight out of the first game. Except, y'know, remade for this new game with new gameplay mechanics and a new story. But this shot was enough to frustrate gamers, who are seemingly under the impression that the devs pulled this off by hitting CTRL + C on the first Spider-Man game. Since that is how game development works.Related: Spider-Man 2 Looks Like A "True Sequel," Whatever That MeansIt all kicked off when a Twitter user spotted that a location in the Spider-Man 2 preview heavily resembles a place in the first game. The multiple differences in the architecture would suggest that the game is, on the whole, unique from the first Spider-Man, but what do I know? It's still New York City, and that's lazy, I guess."It’s literally the same game, but with new mechanics," says one disappointed fan."Using the same map in three titles doesn’t sit right with me," replies another. "If Spider-Man 3 is in NY too, I ain’t copping."

Of course, it's worth mentioning that the map has actually been extended for Spider-Man 2. As we reported earlier this week, it's been confirmed that we'll be going to Queens for the sequel, as seen in the trailer from PlayStation's State of Play. So even if the rest of the map is created through copy and pasting assets from the first game (it's not), at least we'll have that.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, this isn't the first time we've seen a weird Spider-Man take from the gaming community this week. Some gamers also took issue with Spider-Man 2's water graphics, in an incident that is not-so-affectionally being labelled "Puddlegate part 2". This refers to a controversy in the first game, in which puddle graphics were found to be slightly less high quality than they had appeared in trailers. Truly, game-breaking stuff. Lazy devs. Delay the game NOW. Etc, etc. The console wars really are great, aren't they?
