Sony is really not making things easy for gamers. After confirming that Spider-Man: Remastered would not be compatible with save data from the PS4 version of Spider-Man, Insomniac Games has now confirmed that spin-off/sequel Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be able to transfer PS4 save data to its PS5 counterpart. Please make it make sense!

When a fan asked Insomniac Community Director James Stevenson if save data would be compatible between the two versions, he responded with the brief, "Yup!" There aren't any details on whether or not this will be facilitated through cloud saves or using a USB thumb drive, but it seems you'll be able to start your adventure in Miles Morales on PS4 and continue your progress on PS5. That's great since the game comes with a free upgrade, unlike the remaster of its predecessor.

What's really making this situation confusing is that Tripwire Interactive and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios have confirmed that Maneater and Yakuza: Like a Dragon (respectively) will not be able to transfer save data from their PS4 ports to the unreleased PS5 versions. Since Sony won't be offering any kind of transfer for Spider-Man: Remastered, many were beginning to assume it was a system-level problem.

With Miles now shattering that assumption, what is holding other games back? Microsoft has figured out the "impossible" by letting users transfer data to Series X from Xbox One and even back again. It would stand to reason that Sony could do the same thing on its next-generation platform. We'll eventually figure out why, but it would be nice for Sony to make things clear before launch.
